The desired impact of discussions like these is somewhat ruined by the swear filter isn't it?

Should never have been released, or had new identities! And sent to an adult prison! Then they could have only a taster of what they did to that poor baby!!
Hope whatever he's done, makes him stay in there for a long time!!
Only a matter of time before the other one does something!!
Absolute excrement of the earth is an understatement to describe them two!! Make me sick to my stomach!

If what he has done is sufficiently serious one of the rights he should lose, in addition to the right to freedom, is the right to anonymity. He should be named and shamed.

And, as soon as he comes back out again, you might as well hang him from the nearest lamppost yourself - is that really the sort of society we want?
Trying for a minute to remain detached, I'd say that these decisions are the most difficult ones of all for the criminal justice system to make - easier in the case of a Brady or Hindley, who were both mature adults when they did what they did, but what do you do with people who are little more than tots themselves when they commit these monstrous crimes? Presumably you don't want to throw away the key if there's a good chance of them literally growing up and leading safe and productive adult lives.
I am inclined to the view that a recall after 9 years out on licence shows the system working to some extent. Neither of them will ever be truly free as we would understand it, and neither will be allowed to forget what they did.

Well said!
I find it very hard to label them as
chocolate
as they were so young at the time - how much were they aware of what they were doing?? I'm sure they knew it was wrong, but I dont know if they knew the outcome would be murder.
Its the 'age of criminal responsablity' thing again, which is always a contentious issue.
Scotland has a low age of criminal responsability, In Switzerland and Ireland it is set at 7, England and Wales - as we know - is 10. This has to be compared with France where it is 13, the Scandanavian countries where it is 15, and other European countries such as Belgium, Romanian, Lithuania and other where it is 18.
The 2 boys who killed Jamie Bulger were 10 and just above the age of criminal responsability. The that issue has to be considered is the extent to which we are willing to maintain that children as young as 10 can be said to be capable of the appropriate mental capacity for criminal responsibility to be ascribed.

I see what you're saying. These two, yes, were young at the time themselves but they knew what they were doing surely? Any child knows of doing wrong whatever they do. But what they did isn't just some scribbling on their mum's wallpaper or flooding the bathroom!
Yes they will never actually be free or forget what they did but while they were in their 'youth offenders unit' or whatever they were in, they didn't exactly have it tough. Sure prison of some sorts is to re-habilitate people back into society and understanding of their wrong doing. But these two where allowed allsorts, more than the average child did back then. While that poor baby was walking talking and interested in lots of things as toddlers are, didn't stand any chance of any life whatsoever when those two took him.
Im not saying they don't regret what they did, they should do. Whatever this one has done to breach his parole, it's took him 9 years to do so!
As Jamie Bulger's mum has said, it's only proved her right! They should've gone into an adult prison before release.
Any person convicted of this sort of crime, whether it's these two, Hindley, or Brady, they should have their hands chopped off!! Sorry that's they way I feel about these people.

But how do we know they understood the difference!
Its easy as adults to see the difference, but children often dont see the 'big picture' and also find it hard to understand consequences.

I cannot believe that some people on here are actually defending this pair. They are
chocolate
and hanging would be just the punishment they deserve.Saying they were only young is
cola
.My friend was one of the railway workers there when the kid was found.Try telling him what you are saying and he would hit the roof.

Come on, he wouldnt have been JAILED for missing the bus now would he?
I understand its a difficult and emotive case, but just like the 2 kids in Yorkshire recently, they would have known what they were doing

I'm sorry, but I can't believe I've just read that. Well you think back from when you were a child, when you did something wrong and your parents found out or caught you, you knew you'd done wrong!
So how can, scribbling on wallpaper and flooding the bathroom be compared to 'not knowing any different' to what they did to that poor baby?
What that their parents did the same to them? So they thought it was 'normal' I'm sorry without going into too much detail or depth of how they become like this, but when being a child and same as an adult now, you know when someone has hit you or hurt you and know it's wrong and they know it's wrong, but for what torture that poor child went through, you reckon they didn't know any different?
