Watching mrs fergus on 'this morning' programme and just want to say what a very brave and courageous person she is and I hope she gets the awnsers she deserves.
My thoughts are with her and a family.

But its not rumour that "something" has happened. Since it HAS happened then I personally would like to know. Out of curiosity if nothing else. Not read about Thompson yet, but the same rules apply to him. I'm curious about what's happening with him to.
Exactly, that's my point. The government need to come out and define exactly what has been done to stop the rumour mongering, which will rumble on unless they do something. It appears Jack Straw is hinting at revealing details later today.
I can't see it going to court once details are revealed - he would never get a fair trial if people knew who he was.

Was he not out on parole though??? So if you break your parole conditions and committed another offence it's straight back to jail no court case required?

And for that reason alone that is why they shouldn't reveal anything more than what they need to. There are obviously strong legal reasons why the Government have withheld this information and they need to come out and say exactly that. A right to a fair trial on the recent allegations is not just a right for him but it is a right for everybody in the UK, no matter who they are and what they've done. The victims (and their parents) of the more recent crimes deserve
their
justice also.

It's not so much the government that has control over this situation, but the press. If it wasn't so much in the public interest, then the press wouldn't be discussing various rumours and allegations, but they are. So the government's hand is pretty much being forced. Personally, I agree with you, but Joe Public, in the main part, unfortunately won't see it like that. As for the other victims deserving justice, that's a good point, but I guess you can't blame Ms Fergus for wanting to know. It's a tricky situation, and of course a virtually unprecedented one.

Is this / are these still not
alleged
offence(s)? If so, is he still not (by the letter of the law) innocent of this / these new crime(s) until proven guilty?
Also, if and when he's tried, with all the publicity there's been, will he (now) stand accused as Jon Venables, or under his new name? What is now his
official
name? Is it Jon Venables or ***** *****?
If his address is published, there'll be vigilanties round there in no time. Is this fair on the people who live next door / three doors up / facing, his house, who are probably totally unaware of who he really is?
It's a
huge
minefield, and I'm glad that I've not got to make the decision, as to whether his identity
is
revealed, because
whatever
is decided, it'll be wrong in some people's eyes!

Its already out. I am aware of a name and an address - I didn't ask for this information, and I certainly had no desire to know it. But it was on various 'facebook friends' status' when I logged on this morning.

Funny you say that and I just had a look too and seen a name that I had seen this morning, that is twice I've seen that name.

I wouldn't go far as saying its a
male-chicken
-up but like you say an unprecedent sequence of events. The government need to be explicit in what they say and no you cannot blame James Bulger's mother in wanting to know but at the same time given the severity of the allegations she must also understand that justice needs to be done on their part. Then and only then can the ramifications for the Probation System be debated. Not sure whose at fault in all of this but it will all come out in the wash. European Law has a massive part in it IMO.

I presume it wasn't Charlie Blackhole or Duncan Prawn?

I remember when they were released after rehabiliation, and thought the decision was the right one. The ruling was always going to split people. But they were so young, and at 10 years old, whilst what they did to that boy was inexplicable, they were old enough to be rehabilitated. I don't imagine that life in a juvenile prison was like living in a holiday camp. Considering the seriousness of their crime, I don't think the decision to release them would have been taken lightly. At that time, sending them to a fully fledged adult prison would only have undone the rehabilitation and it was the right time for them to return to society and have a chance at rebuilding their lives. At 10 years old, they deserved that.
As we don't know why he has been returned to prison, it's unfair to condemn him. He was living the life of an average 27 year old year, and his crime could be one any of you has committed. But because of who he is, it has all been blown out of proportion. He hasn't done to another 2 year old what he did to Jamie Bulger - otherwise we would have heard that and so we can maybe conclude that he his rehabilitation was successful.

No smoke without fire though, chief. The newspapers know what has happened and they are dying to tell us why he's been arrested.

According to the papers, he's in there for child pornography so in 'reality' it was only a matter of time before he was going to do it again!
Not to stick up for him as it's not excuse what he did, it's clear in today's papers and the last weeks papers he has struggled to live with himself with what he has done! He's been spotted in a jail and pinned someone against the wall and I quote from the paper 'lost it'.
Yes prison brawls happen all the time but IMHO he's getting what he deserves! The nine years of 'rehabilitation, we don't know what stuff he
has
got away with!
