Right so would it not be beyond the realms of possibility that because the groundsman couldn't even stick his key in the ground, that cover sheets wouldn't have worked anyway? Those things are only effective to certain temperature...

Seriously, it's one game and not a particularly important one at that.. As I said before maybe you lot should have got down to the club and spouted off some of the hot air you spout on here. That would have thawed the pitch in no time.

in fact iwould say the have done naff all maybe they should stop claming expences and buy some sheeting instead

Facts? You wouldn't know the meaning of the word. What a pathetic thing to say. I hope the groundsman is reading this.

Quote from: Rickp
I was on a course at the stadium today & I bumped into Dave the Head Groundsman.
I was chatting with him for about 10 mins. He was very philosophical about the whole affair.
He said if the club did have covers he would cover the pitch but he couldn't possibly keep covering & uncovering after every training session. Also after every session he has to do remedial work on the pitch aswell. So to cover it up is just too much workload for him & his team.
He also said this has been an issue since the grounds Naughton Park days because of the way ground was situated going East to west along the touchlines.
He reckoned if the new stadium had been built North to South these issues would never arise because the frozen area would have been behind the deadball line at only one end of the pitch, or at the very worst acouple yards into the in goal area.

Probably the most sensible thing that's been said on this thread.

All you whingers take note and get a life.

why does he buy the sheets then. NO our landlords are suppose to provide us with a playable pitch

dust sheets, old curtains if they have to.

It is the fact that it is prone to happening and every man and his dog was aware that the temperatures were going to drop to -4 C and yet no preventive action was taken.

The other thing is that it was 6-7 deg by 1pm yesterday (in my car anyway), so remove the frost and the game is on

Perhaps they could have played in your car. And before I'm accused of being silly - I'm only responding to an equally silly statement. What has the temperature in your car got to do with it ?

I'm there again tomorrow so if I can I will try & get pitchside & have look before I come home tomorrow.
When I get home I will post my verdict of my findings at about 3pm.

I can hardly wait.

Logic and reason are clearly lost on you in this instance. We shall end this debate on that note.

That should have said............. like the Warrington friendly earlier this year.

Who exactly are we apologising to aswell. I believe that Judes have been offered free coach travel for the return game.

So avoiding the bunfight, is it true that they have free coach travel? Provided you mean coaches and not someone giving the gaffer a lift, this should help with their fan numbers.

Is that a genuine post GSF or are you being facitious?
If your trying to be funny, I think you're out of order.
I know that my report won't be official. But if you look at some of the posts on the other thread related to this one.
There were quite a few of our fans who travel quite a distance to watch us. So every bit of information they get can be of relevance to them.
When I said I will post my findings it will a somple statement saying whether the pitch is still hard at 2.30 or if it has thawed.
My advise if the pitch is hard would be for them to phone the club to see what the chances are for the game being on.
I'm just trying to do some of our fans a favour.

It was 0 at 11-30 and the forecast is for -2 tonight, so i think there's a good chance it will be off again tomorrow, as that strip by the south stand still wont have melted.

I assume you trying to be a smart word, the temperature was actually 21 in my car, you knew exactly what I meant

Impressive stuff SJ.
With regards the Stobart pitch surely there's someway to prevent frost. I'm puzzled about the East-West thing. I don't remember Naughton Park games being called off much and that was the days of winter RL.

Roll Eyes

Get a grip.

Can I add another 3 words to all the moaners---get a life.

Whilst it was disappointing that the game wasnt on on Sunday---that's all it was-- a game-- and yes we all want to see a match but the way some are going on is far too unhealthy for me.
10 days ago the best youth team in this town (and regarded as the best in the country at U16's) suffered an injury to one of its players--a broken neck sustained in a school rugby match--and the 16 year old is now in a neck brace for 3 months as well as having to wear a metal cage round his head.  That is something to worry and be concerned about--a match which can be rearranged in a couple of days isnt.
