My thoughts too. There is a big difference between the council approving the plans (lets face it they weren't really going to turn it down) and starting the build onsite.

I think they may be able to start work on the site clearance before they can submit the detailed planning application. I read somewhere on RLFans that work might not start till October. The extent of the knotweed problem will dictate how long the site clearance will take.
It isn't the first time they've had outline planning and its gone womanly-curves up. Glad I ain't a Salford fan.

funny enough i was listening to late night radio the other night and they mentioned theyre releasing this japanese bug in 2 secret locations to combat this, i guess salfords ground may be 1 of the locations then  Grin

Pie & Sky comes to mind.
I don't think it will get built/ Especially if Sale get relegated from the Union Premiership, which is quite possible.
If they go down their gates will drop lower than Salfords.
Sale average about 7,000 give or take but about 40% of their gate is away support.
I think it will be built now that the Salford City Council has become involved as they would lose face if it does not happen.  However a scroll down the Salford website concerning the stadium (as Griffin suggested) certainly shows in my view how the Salford club have been misleading the RFL about the progress of their stadium.  Although it may well have been that the RFL wanted to be misled.

The main problem has been funding 2 of the major shareholders are developers which have taken huge hits, I am sure that the finance is in place otherwise they wouldnt have pushed for the early committee meeting to get approval.  That takes some doing also! Maybe panic has set in the preliminary visits have shown that they would not be given a second term so they have done something about it and fair play to them for doing so!

I can't see what has really changed here.

Quote
Salford City Council’s cabinet approved plans to form a joint-venture company with Peel Holdings to deliver a 15,000-seat community stadium as part of a £26million project to transform a 70-acre site at Barton, just off the M60 near the Trafford Centre shopping complex.

From the Council meeting last December (I haven't reprinted it all, just the relevant points):-

Quote
That Cabinet approve:

a) The ‘in principle’ establishment of a Joint Venture Company (JVC) to develop and manage a 15,000 seat sports stadium (with the option to grow in the future to 20,000 seats) with associated practice pitches and community facilities, plus to develop adjoining land for bulk retail and commercial purposes.

d) The expenditure of up to £0.6m as advanced preparatory work to secure planning approval and undertake site investigation works. This is on the understanding that the expenditure will be funded 50:50 between the Council and Partners in the event of non-recovery from NWDA grant or the JVC.

Assessment of Risk: The current risk assessment for the proposal is High.

I don't have a problem with Salford, good luck to them. As others have said, our bid will stand up on its own merits, but it looks to me like this is all about timing.

I can't think of a single reason why they couldn't have done this months ago. Unless, of course, that would have meant their plans would have had to be fairly advanced by the time the franchise decisions were made, whereas they now can claim to be on target without having done a great deal. (Handover in December 2011)

Someone speaks with forked tongue....

The Outline Planning Application was received on 29th October 2009 but has not yet even gone before the Planning Committee.......FACT, and is not expected to before May/June. Whilst no-one expects the Council to reject its own plans Full approval would not be expected before July/August pushing any start date further back.

The only application approved is for the remediation work, and the original Outline application which was made in April 2003 which has long since lapsed.

This information is in the public domain where the current application for outline approval is still listed as 'Pending Consideration'

The Local Government grant-in-aid settlement which is on its way for all of us 2010-11 after the election means the council has not a cat in hell's chance of joint funding a white elephant like this.

Absolutely correct.  More window dressing - no substance.

Pardon my ignorance but what is that, and what are the implications?
