It all hangs on getting the faithful to travel to Barton. It is true that a new stadium can generate a nosy few to start with, but if the success on the field doesn't materialise the dream fades. It's no more fun watching your team get beat in a new stadium than it is in a run down shed.
Maybe they'll lay free buses on from the city?

Article says it will be completed by 2011, so 1st of Jan in 8 1/2 months is 2011 so guess it will be done in double quick time!!. However won't be playing in there til the end of 2011. So really as their season ends in August/Sept (April / May competitively speaking ) they won't really be playing in there until start of 2012 season. As the next licence decision is being made in 1st half of 2011 is there a lot of chat in here and dates given to bulk up their application & chances. Hmmmm? It would not surprise me if they don't get in until mid-late 2012 and it would be funny for me if they had by then been told to spend three years in the Championship and try again in 2015. You are the weakest link GOODBYE! as AR would say. |

Last month they were saying work would start in April.
Now they are saying Detailed planning permission will be requested in May.
Not convinced this news changes much.

My thoughts too. There is a big difference between the council approving the plans (lets face it they weren't really going to turn it down) and starting the build onsite. I think they may be able to start work on the site clearance before they can submit the detailed planning application. I read somewhere on RLFans that work might not start till October. The extent of the knotweed problem will dictate how long the site clearance will take. It isn't the first time they've had outline planning and its gone womanly-curves up. Glad I ain't a Salford fan. |

the work starting next month is remediation work, which basically is purely preperation work before detailed plans can be made and submitted. In the councils detailed statement, they say that they will work in partnership with Salford and initially they need an in depth"risk assessment" of Salfords busuness plan as at the moment they are looked upon as "high risk". I personally feel that we have no risk from Salford as we will submit a strong enough aplication for SL which will stand up on its own merits which will be too strong to ignore. It can only be good for RL if Salford do get a new facility and can grow as a club, but i still will not be holding my breath waiting for it to happen. As i have stated before, in my humble opinion, the best thing for RL in this country would be a SL of 16 teams playing 13 home 13 away games and the magic weekend. It would mean not all teams are played twice, but this has happened before. The second tier would be made up of20 teams playing 26 games 13 home 13 away and this would give the smaller clubs a much needed increase in revenue.
