Mick Govin has just been released by Whitehaven, would be a great pick up for us whth Smithy and Coyle injured long term, would also give us cover for James Webster.

Cracking player IMO. Just bd injury problems over last 5 years or so. Very good hooker but when fit at Halifax was always played elsewhere.
If he was fully fit now, wouldn't be a bad shout on a short term deal, Hulme is doing a good job but as a natural 7 do we want to mould him into a 9?

Just Reading League Weekly it says Widnes are looking at options in view of the injuries to Smith and Coyle so i should think we'd be in the market for him.

Gerrard didn't do a bad job in the No 9 shirt yesterday. Do we really need another short term signing?

Gerrard was fantastic yesterday, but when quality players are available a club of our standing should always be interested.

Danny Hulme is a great prospect and will play his heart out wherever selected, but if we can gain an experienced player atm it would boost our presence on the field.
Depends what his physical state is and what his price is!!!!!
If Haven have released him why?

Gerrard didn't play 9 exclusively at all, started at 6 with Webster / Thacks filling in at 9 and then Hulme played 9 when came on with Gerrard either spelled or at 13.

Would stay away from Govin, sounds a bit lazy from what I hear. Hasn't really done much in the past few years with Whitehaven, Halifax or Leigh. Always seemed to get flak at Halifax whenever we played there. Would sooner see more of Hulme at 9.

I'd sooner us utilise the players we did in the hooking roll yesterday than sign someone who has been released from a failing club. Govin has hardly set the division alight in recent years.
Thackery gives us great go forward from dummy half with hulme, gerrard and webbo sharing thr hooking role we've got adequate cover til Coyle returns at least.

Whitehaven have serious financial problems again and Richard Raaz has recently gone on record saying that the club need to release funds from the playing budget and Govin is a casualty of this, but is he a Wines player IMO NO

Hulme looks good so far. His distribution direct from dummy half actually seems better than Smiths and Coyles (ie, faster passes, less in front of the receivers face). Not saying he's a better all round player at the moment, but I'd stick with him and gradually give him more game time over the next few weeks, keeping the same formula of using rotation of Thacks, Webster, Gerrard and Hulme to cover the two half back positions and hooker. Only need someone else if something happens to one of them.

Last season in one of the Fax away games Govin was class.
He ripped us to pieces, the game we lost on a Friday night, cant remember the score, but Govin was brilliant.

That has often been a mistake in the past, signing players just because they once played well against us.

That shows how bad we were that night.
