I watched the game as a neutral yesterday and thought St Maries were extremely lucky to win, they didn't seem to have much thought or direction in attack especially against 11 men for the majority of the 2nd half but cup rugby is all about winning and getting your hands on the trophy and thats what they did so congratulations to them, my argument is to do with the Widnes ARL Committee who pick the Man of the Match award, now no disrespect to Dave Welch who received the award, and who probably was the best for a poor St Maries, but Simms Cross Paul Walsh was the best player on the pitch by a country mile and not picking him because his team didn't win is an absolute joke and about time this changed, the best player on the field win lose or draw should get this award, just like the professional game Eg: Kevin Sinfield Lance Todd Winner even though they lost the cup final to Hull.

I know players dont play for personal accolades but it is nice to receive some recognition in big games when deserved.

I call on the Widnes ARL to seriously consider changing this ridiculous rule of thought for next season, its simple give the M.o.M to the Best Player on the pitch.

Thanks for the heads up Sammo but i defy any bonehead to disagree with what i've said, there were enough Coaches, Players and fans of St Maries and Rugby league in general to be honest saying exactly the same upstairs in the club last night.

As For the coaches and ARl, thats a load of "Tosh", the Widnes ARL Committee choose M.o.M and i was speaking to members of this Committee after the game were they reliably informed me personally that Paul Walsh was getting M.o.M until Flanagan Scored at which point they Chose Dave welch because he was the best on a Winning Side................................?

Again I'm not disrespecting Dave Welch for his acheivement, i just think the best player on the pitch should get the award.

mick randall was the best prop on the field 80mins non stop(does this most wk's). walshy was m.o.m by a mile & thought dave percy & ry milly where best for simmies. for the maries it was close between gilmore & welch,& then the full back always looked dangerous with his speed. well done to the maries, was a strange game to watch & credit to the simmies for a top effort, suppose it makes up for last yr when simmies snatched it when really the maries should of won.

Just to clear this up, MOM isn't picked by coaches, or the widnes league.

MOM was picked by the representative from Hattons Solicitors as the competition sponsor!

I think you may be mistaken, it is definately the committee who nominate M.o.M and they change there opinions depending on who is winning...............!

Please lets change this thinking that M.o.M has to come from the winning side..............!

MOM was definately picked by Mike Denning of Hattons Solicitors the W&DARL Sponsors. Common sense says that the Widnes Committee are too busy manning turnstiles etc. and arranging the Curtain Raiser and Widnes Cup Final match arrangements. They more than likely they do not see the full game.
