Trust in Widnes sponsored the man of the match award and also provided a donation to ‘Help our Heroes’ for the recent challenge between the Royal Engineers and a mixed Widnes Amateur team. The match had been arranged by the Engineers in memory of one of their lads who had been killed and as he was a RL fan they decided to take on the RL challenge.
The score was not really important, it was more the manner in which the game took place, both sides showed determination, competitiveness and most importantly, good humour. It proved to be a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon out for the spectators, congratulations to St Maries for their excellent hospitality.
The Sappers were so impressed by the organisation by the Widnes St Maries lads and the local support shown that they asked that this might become an annual fixture – next round at their place in Ireland !!
