Why are there no tables, whats the point in playing the games if there is no prize on offer at the end of the season ?
I can only speak for the U16's--many of whom have played a gruelling season for their own club--and then had the important 6 games playing for Widnes. The matches will have helped Widnes (and other clubs) finalise their recruitment. Whilst many of the positions were probably already sorted there is always somebody who shines in these games and puts himself in the frame for a contract.
The teams we played didnt just play each other--Harlequins and Wire for instance--played St Helens--we didnt. Salford played Wigan--we didnt. However to be unbeaten was a tremendous achievement and every player was playing for Widnes and hoping to get a contract with them.
