I thought it was an excellent game and a brilliant performance by the lads.

I have watched all their home games and it has been notable the improvements week on week.

Although an excellent achievement to get in the top group of the academy split I was very warry that it would be a step too far for us having seen how St Helens ripped us to shreads earlier in the season.

It was brilliant to see our young lads beating St Helens yesterday and for me was a landmark win even better then the hammering of Leeds at headingley a few weeks back. St Helens are/were the top team currently in the academy set up, so yesterdays victory was outstanding.

I thought we played some excellent stuff. The sin binning near the end was very harsh in my opinion and meant they were hanging on at the end, but it made for an exciting finish.

Great to see a lot more fans there too.

I agree, thought the lads played great.
There were a few errors, without them we could have put more points on them. Think that the 4/5 week break didnt help, but  think that they will get better and could well finish top of this group.
They are showing these superleague clubs that although widnes may not have the same funding as them, We definateley have as good if not better acadamy set up.
The coaching that these lads are getting must be first class.

Well done to all involved....

I wanted to go to this game, but coming from Runcorn and the current weekend Bridge traffic put paid to that idea.

I bought League Express this morning especially to read the write up, but not one single mention of the game could be found.

Not even the score ( or have i just missed it ? )

Oh dear, oh dear, as Corporal Jones would have said in Dad's Army, "they don't like it up em Mr Mainwareing".......

Here is a list of excuses from the St Helens Academy Team Manager:

A Lacklustre Saints Academy side
But with men either side he went alone, only to be pushed in touch
After a series of inexplicable refereeing decisions Nathan Ashe was sin binned
the Vikings profited from a dubious knock on

But the home side held on for a victory and celebrated as if a trophy had been won............[/

Clearly a very sore loser and as Team Manager should know better in my opinion

Another great result for the lads on Saturday and will help confidence no end. However what has to be even more pleasing is the way in which Widnes ,as a club, have approached this years Academy. This new format of under18's games are specifically designed around player improvement. Although results are important for confidence they are not the end all and be all at this level. We have watched ,whilst players from other superleague teams ,who have been in the academy setup for some time and even broken through into their own under 20's setup, be dropped back to this level whenever the 20's haven't got a game. This is at the expense of some of their new recruits. This was particulary pleasing on Saturday when you see Widnes blood two new young lads who have just signed. Saints are parading their new recuits on their website , we parade them on the pitch Smiley

Well done for a gutsy performance lads.  Smiley
