Widnes Moorfield have officially withdrawn our application to join the league. Unfortunately, despite a lot of work by the committee to get acceptance back into the league, at a meeting of the Open Age team on tuesday, it was decided that due to the lack of players committing to the club, that there was no point in continuing.

Its a sad situation to be in, especially as Division 2 had been confirmed to us, however, in this situation it was felt that it was unfair to the league not to give them the notice required to draft in another team.

The committee want to thank all of the players past and present for their commitment and hard work and wish them luck wherever the decide to play their rugby in the future.

sure is sad news to lose another team. maybe the remaining clubs should look at pulling together in a recruitment drive through the local papers highlighting the decline in local clubs and player no. and that new players are always welcome no matter what the ability

If the RFL ave their way and turn to summer rugby there will be even less numbers.

Its not just in Widnes either, other towns are struggling.  Sad to hear about Moorfield, hope the lads from there carry on playing and dont just rap it in.

sad news but lets hope the widnes commitee dont decide to let another widnes team start up shortly, as it has been stated most clubs in the town are struggling for numbers.

Bad news indeed for Morefield...but they have the development to come through this in the seasons come keep up the good work and you will be back stronger than ever.

We know what you have been going through to keep a open age side up and running.

Good luck from all at the West Bank Swans.

Cheers Jim,

In a couple of years we will have under 18s, 17s. 16s etc so we can then start looking at re-forming, albeit with a lot of youngsters.....

Thanks for the info Dave. It's a pity things did not work out but most of the lads moved on to other teams last season anyway.I hope they keep on playing for their new clubs. The Mallards were a cracking set of lads and I enjoyed many social outings with them over the past few years.I will miss this! I would like to thank them and wish them all well for the future.Hope to see you and a few of the rabble in the club during the summer months.
