He was given a "new identity" when released, so was he tried for this new crime as Jon Venables, or under his new moniker?

Either way, I would imagine that wherever he serves his time, even if he's listed as "Prisoner X", it won't be long before it's discovered who he really is!

Sky News are reporting that he lived in Cheshire. I am sure that Cartman said something about Birchwood a few months back.

Venables and Thompson committed probably the most despicable crime of the 20th century. Their childhood was anything but 'normal' before the killing and clearly spent in jail afterwards.
But don't forget, they were just children. A product of their environment and upbringing. What was 'normal' to Venables would make most of us quake with fear, but prison was probably the most care and comfort he'd ever had in his young life.
When he was released he must have known that every day his life was at risk. He can never go back over what he did. I am in no way defending him but you sometimes get the feeling there is a hidden story behind the headlines and scandal. He has said today that he is glad to be going back to prison. I get the feeling that he has tried everything to do just that since his release. Fighting, then drugs and each time he's not been sent back. In the end he's gone for the most serious thing imaginable and finally its worked.
Should he have ever been released in the first place? Debatable. Have the probation service missed obvious cries for help before this crime? Most certainly. Is he a really a paedophile? I doubt it. It seems a very silly way to get caught if you were genuinely up to no good.
Sad for everyone involved.

Think is Venables upbringing wasn't the worst! At the time teachers etc said Thompson dragged him into mischief etc, yet since they have come out he's the one in the news a fair bit!

The lad is just wrong in the head full stop! They got 8 years for that to re commit any offence after a major crime shoud be life simple as.

I agree he is obviously not right right in the head, and clearly anyone who has had the life he has had from age 10 or even from before that, never ever will be.  But do I think he is really a paedophile who enjoyed looking at those things.  No I dont.  Why would you ring your probation officer and ask them to come round and then get out your child porn stash?

He should never be allowed near society again.  My point is that I think even he knew he shouldnt be around society either. As a result he's gone and done evreything he can to get back inside.  My concern is that whoever was responsible for his rehabilitation and release failed to notice this and subsequently, upon the public outcry about his release, failed to deal with with all the petty crime he committed for fear of critisism until in the end, Venables did the most outrageous thing possible so that it couldnt be ignored and brushed over.  As he described it himself, "he broke the last taboo."

Its almost as if even he wondered what he had to do to get sent back to prison>

Thing is you wouldn't think anyone would but there seems to be enough of them  Undecided

I know what you mean though better out then in maybe from his point of view as well.

If i knew there identities would i tell people-----------Abosolutely without any hesitation
