BRACEK DENIES WIDNES LINK AND WANTS TO STAY AT RAIDERS
Tuesday, 03 August 2010

ATTRACTING INTEREST: Raiders forward Andy Bracek
POWERFUL forward Andy Bracek has denied rumours he is set to leave Barrow Raiders and join Championship rivals Widnes.

The 23-year-old prop is out of contract at the end of the season and has yet to open negotiations on a new deal. But, contrary to reports in national RL paper League Weekly, the former Warrington man says he has had no contact at all with the Vikings and wants to stay for a third season at Craven Park.

“At this point, there is nothing going on between myself and Widnes,” he said. “There has been absolutely no contact with them regarding a contract.”

Bracek signed a two-year deal with Barrow before the start of the 2009 season – a deal which runs out after this campaign. He has since moved to Barrow with his wife Rachel and daughter Darcy and was part of the team that won the Championship last season.

Such success means he wants to stay with the Raiders, but he admits he cannot wait forever for a new offer, and that other clubs have expressed an interest in securing his services.

“Rumours fly around all the time,” said Bracek. “Sometimes there is truth to them and sometimes there is not. In this instance, I am really keen to stay with the Raiders. It’s a club that is going places with the backing of Des (Barrow Raiders chairman Des Johnston), with the team we have, and hopefully we can get the stadium sorted as well.

“I’d like to stay, but I have got to look after my family.

“There haven’t been any talks yet and I know Des is a busy man, but I am keen to get it sorted.

“The ball is in Des’s court now and I can’t wait forever because I need to get something sorted for my family’s future and I need to do that soon. There has been nothing concrete from elsewhere, but there are a few things in the pipeline that I could look at.”

Bracek admits he still has aspirations to play both in Super League once more, and for England. That would seem to conflict with his desire to stay at Barrow and the man himself admits to being in two minds.

“I would like to stay up here, but in the same breath, I would very much like to get up to Super League again and start making a name for myself,” he said.

“Hopefully, I can still kick on and I want to play for England someday – that’s my big dream and I am still only 23. You must always drive yourself to achieve your top goal.

“I’m keen to stay and the ball is in Des’s court as to when we start talking. I just can’t wait forever.”

Des Johnston... quite rare to see his name feature so prominently when it comes to team matters at the Barrow Raiders.

Well staying at Barrow isn't going to help his Super League aspirations.
