Ah well that's alright then  Roll Eyes
Of course I don't want to see players being dropped to the reserves but as I said the coaching staff would not do this without good reasons.  Whether we get to know those reasons is a different matter but sometimes things are best kept in-house.

apparently according to one of the players they were dropped by cassidy for not attending training and generally taking the tizer since pc has been on compassionate leave. if this is the case good on mick cassidy.

If that is the case well done to Cassidy, as he is a winner.Just look at his record for Wigan. That idiot or milk-shakers think they are something they can jog on and find another club.I want players who are committed to my club.

This is another example of the club causing unrest with the fans because of it's refusal to communicate through it's official website.

Unnecessary negatives are thrown around first at coaching staff, and now at players.

The club must have realised that dropping Thackeray, Doran and Gannon would be seen as a surprise move - you would have expected some comment on it's board.

Maybe the situation will become a little clearer following an appropriate comment in the next matchday programme.

However, isn't this the type of selection decision that you would expect to be picked up on by our local newspaper and reported on. You can bet your life if Liverpool dropped Gerrard or United dropped Rooney the national papers would be onto it in a jiffy and asking pertinent questions of Hodgson or Fergie.

i can't believe this! this is how we repay our best most consistent player thacks?! absolutely ridiculous! he has consistently been our best performer and man of the match on numerous occasions this season! unless he has done something out of order behind the scenes of course...

Is it just me that thinks he might have rested rather than dropped. Granted he played in reserves but it's clearly a lesser intensive game than fax away. We need him and tuna fully fit, and ready to go against le french. It's more important we took points off Toulouse rather than beating fax and taking points from them. Maybe as were running out of games the coaching staff have come up with a plan and it's to prioritise our wins. please don't fall into the trap of saying we must win them all. Be realistic and pick which 3 games out of these you need to win to make playoffs ... Fax, toulose, Sheffield, barrow and keighley.  I think 99% of us would lose to fax and barrow but beat the rest. ie having our best squad available for them other 3. In saying that I know it's a risk but so is tapping the ball at a penalty in front of your sticks   Wink

obviously something has gone on behind the scenes. cassidy has no axe to grind whatsoever with the players anybody who has met him will know what a genuine fella he is.

They must have been dropped rather than rested. You don't rest a player and play them in the reserves two days later.

I thought Thackeray has been playing with a knock for the past few games? So maybe he was rested but played for the reserves to keep his match fitness up for next week. As it was only against Hunslet it wasn't going to be a struggle, so they could give him a run out without worsening the injury.

Absolute nonsense.A player can aggravate an injury or suffer a new one no mater what standard of game they are playing in.Just because it was 'only' Hunslet makes no difference.Have you never seen a player pull up with a hamstring or ankle injury without even a finger laid on him?

The match commentators deffo said thacks and varkuilis were dropped! Not rested and not injured haggy didn't pass a fitness test. Barie mac also said in commentary that unless you play well week in and week out you will be dropped and how good of Widnes to do this.
Somethings going on and I would be very suprised to find thacks at Widnes next season.

If we employed Barrie's policy there would be several players dropped every week!

This clearly seems to be the reason they missed a game and were put into the reserves. It doesn't mean that they are dropped for ever and ever, or have to leave the club - just a slap on the wrists to bring them back to their senses.

"Good on yer, Cassidy!"

Don't see why not. Thacks wants to play SL and he has the best chance of doing so if he stays with us.
