Looks a bit more like a starter but as has been said before, I'll believe it when we are kicking off at Salford in Superleague. Tough ask for a 2012 start for them if it does go ahead though Undecided.

Where the hell are the council geting the money from? Just about every other council is talking about job losses and which services are to be cut. Baffling

what a suprise a sudden rush of clubs throwing up stadiums quickly to avoid the chop we all knew this was coming. whats the odds on the opening game at the stadium being played with atleast 1 stand not fully finished? do the rfl specify that grounds have to be ready at full capacity for 2012 or will almost complete do

Submitting detailed proposals before city planners is not building a ground its all still hot air until they start the actual construction , it just sounds like more of the smoke screen from last round of bids . Time for all those involved over in salford to go rent there hard hats for another photo opp .

This article comes from March 2010, when the BBC did a survey of all councils.  Salford suggested 400 job cuts, this is ovbiously before the election and the austerity measures affecting local government.  Interesting to see the break down of spending on the stadium project.

Peel Holdings are a big concern and probably have the required funds. Like everyone else though, I can't see it happening, at least not by 2012. In Feb 2008 they said the same thing.

Even though it looks likely the stadium will go ahead, once the detailed planning permission is granted, there is every possibility that central government will not allow Salford council to commit £26 million without close scrutiny.

Its amazing that they can be 'preparing' the land to build on when they don't even have planning permission. Still - I don't thimk this concerns us....
