I'll open this one to the floor,

Smithy was clearly a very popular player amongst the fans and whether you agree with his release or not, how about show our appreciation for the man:

Obviously I can't do it due to the logistics of it but how about a banner thanking him for what he has done something along the lines of "THANKS SMITHY" and get all those fans willing to do so to write their personal best wishes on the banner for him to keep?

It's a bit unusual and perhaps late in the day but a nice touch IMO at least it gives him something to remember our appreciation, particularly when we went bump and he hung around and the lack of loyalty.

Any takers to get something going for the best fans in RL?

Brilliant idea Vic!

Could TIW help in organising it?  I'm sure there are loads of us who will contribute.

Sorry, I meant the lack of loyalty which is not the norm in today's game rather than Smithy.

Like you, Vic King, I don't live in/near Widnes (yes, I know - excuses!) so can't really get involved in the project but will gladly put a few quid in the pot for the pleasure of writing a short message and signing such a banner.

I don't want or intend to get into a debate as to the rights/wrongs of the club releasing him - and unlike at least one other messageboard user WILL be renewing my season ticket - but do want to show my appreciation to a great club-man and this is a brilliant way of letting me do so.

Well done for the idea!

If only an organisational volunteer can be found.  Huh

Great idea, Something I could have done from design to print and collect donations, Only thing is my daughter goes into Alder Hey today for big op and not expected home til Tuesday, I might be pushed for time by then. If we win at Barrow I can take hold of this, as it gives me another week.   Undecided

Home made banner? Black spray can on a white bed sheet! Cool

Do not do it, if it is windy though! Shocked Grin

I will get back to you. I don't mind enquiring and doing the legwork but someone else will have to place order and take delivery. I will gladly throw a ten-spot in for it though.

Nice one fella! Viking Nash has shown the benefits of a paypal account with it's speed etc, maybe an idea we look at getting one of these set up under a Widnes related name etc?

Aye, that's a long the lines I was thinking! A sort of central hub for this sort of thing and like it or loath it the trust is the perfect place for it to be run from Grin
