Who cares if the teams do have a lot of Samoans playing - the Americans like fast, athletic, skillful, physical sport - and in RL, that even means without helmets. If the game catches on , fantastic. Channel 4 are likely to show it on TV even though they will not show the British game. As long as their best team isn't invited into SL under the banner of expansion, I hope they succeed.

So do I. They play RU in the USA, but I think they would like to see more open play than RU offers.

i think the yanks could get into it.what they need is a police team and a fire fighter team that will take it up.new yorkers will notice.they play ice hockey against each other and knock seven tons of spangles out of each other.its great to watch.rugby league is just the kind of game they will enjoy.i can just imagine new yorkers in packed bars watching the beautiful game with a beer.enjoying the skill and the impacts.also yanks seem to prefer games that you use hands to control the ball.just a thought. USA have been going for years

Peter Super League 2012??? I have to tell you that when Super League arrived the yanks were promised two teams... one in New York to play in the Eurpopean SL and one in Hawaii to play in Australasian SL

I have a bad taste in my mouth from the way the Australian RL screwed with SL and essentially caused Rugby Union to go Pro with Murdoch's money because the ARL wouldn't back him.

RL then was oin the threshold of something really good... RU jumped at the chance because they knew they were beaten, dead and buried if RL had taken Murdochs money in Australia.

It's all history now!

USA v Ireleand 1996 *I think the Irish player being tackled is Ex Chemic, Des Foy

I know a bit about the American Rugby League ;o) I have a World Cup Medal from 1995 Emerging Nations....

In case you're interested 1996 web page for the American Patriots Rugby League
the Patriots were replaced by Super League America
and in 1997 (?) I sent a team to the ARL's Coca-Cola world 7's in Sydney.... we were called the Cavaliers then. They lasted one tournament while we started SL America... which went on to become the AMNRL.

David Niu the president of the AMNRL was scrum-half for St George before meeting his wife on an end of season trip to Hawaii and moving to Philadelphi, home of the AMNRL.

Okay - it's Flash and Web 2.0 ... but... it was all done long hand....

I was being a bit frivolous, Ged.  I knew RL had been in the USA for some years, although I doubt Richard Lewis knew that it had.

I disagreed with the Murdoch money/influence at the time, and still do.

I think we had something better going for us but unfortunately the then powers that be wanted World Domination.
