Don’t get me wrong these are all good signings for the Reds, especially compared to what they have! But I don’t see why they are being widely applauded for this and people have even called it a ‘success’ of franchising that they are spending big now…
I thought the opposite was the idea? Not signing 30year old Aussies but breeding young British lads?
Also they have brought in 7 O/S players, quota?
Good on Salford they may challenge for top 8 strongly next season but the reaction has certainly baffled me and you know if Cas for example did the same they’d be barracked for it as Wigan where for signing 3 players from the ‘reigning’ NRL Champs!

Sportinglife.com;
Salford have taken their recruitment for 2011 to seven new faces with the capture of Wigan overseas duo Iafeta Paleaaesina and Phil Bailey.
Prop forward Paleaaesina, 28, has signed a three-year contract while second rower Bailey, 30, has penned a two-year deal.
Both were out of contract with the Warriors at the end of the season and were not offered new deals.
They will join Luke Patten, Chris Nero, Stephen Wild, Tevita Leo-Latu and Vinnie Anderson at a new-look Reds team for a final season at The Willows before the club moves across the city to their new stadium next to the M60 and the Trafford Centre. "I'm really looking forward to joining Salford," said Paleaaesina, who has spent the last four seasons with Wigan after joining them from Auckland Warriors.
"I know some of the other guys who are coming such as Tevita Leo-Latu and Vinnie Anderson really well and we're all talking about next season and we're pretty excited about getting Salford up where they should be.
"The Reds have struggled this season because of injuries and that can happen. Next season though I think we'll have a bit more depth and we'll certainly be a different proposition."
Bailey joined Wigan from Cronulla in 2007 and made over 100 appearances.

Think they are signing so many big name players on 2 year plus deals to try and help them secure a license. Looks like they will be spending up to the cap so on the crowds they get, a bit like Quins the chairman must be digging deep.
They should go well next year but 6 of the 7 players signed are overseas and late 20's or early 30's. The polar oposite of what the license system was setup for, we may as welll have promo and relegation every year as nothing has changed.

Its all smoke and mirrors though, come 2012 they will have Fat Feka - 30 Wild - 31 Nero - 31 Patten - 32 Anderson - 33 Mark Henry - 31, Daniel Holdsworth will be 28 Leo Latu - 31 and Bailey - 32 What happened to home grown, youth players? I really dont think they will do any better than this year to be honest

It does look like geriatric Rugby. Nothing wrong with a few old heads to help the youngsters come along but when the youngsters have to carry the zimmer frames ...........

I think their fans may be getting a bit carried away now... their latest links are...
James Roby 'But Saints don't want to sell' Adrian Morley - Back 2 back CC winning skipper. but 'they must be close to cap'. Michael Ennis - Current NSW Origin hooker!
Must be a nice place in their heads thoigh!

What's happened to Stefan Ratchford? He was supposed to be a prospective GB international when he first broke into the Salford team 3 or so years ago?
