are 'we'
pretty sure it said he didnt sign 'because a number of super league clubs were sniffing round', not 'he didnt sign because the terms were not acceptable to him'
(fwiw i think he will be here next year and ill be glad to see him)
Why hasn't he gone then?
But we can never change that! But if it was just a desire to leave for SL he would of gone by now and not involved in SL? Clearly the initial offer couldn't compare to SL, he wants to stay so we are looking at what we can do!

With the rules regarding development officers changing (and thus cutting into his salary), a great season behind him, SL clubs asking around I think that he is entitled to look elsewhere. Obviously by exploring these new options like VIQI he wants to be part of this club and take us to SL himself. Its always a good sign if a player is willing to wait around whilst there are other offers hanging around him.
Hopefully he will stay and lead us out in a SL game in a couple of years

Anybody who doubts Anthony's committment to playing at the top level with
WIDNES VIKINGS
may I suggest you get yourself down to O'Neills on Saturday and ask him. And then to show hime how committed the fans are by joining VIQI at the same time. Simples!
Yer, and i'm sure he will tell us. He had a good season and i can't blame him for wanting the best deal but don't be fooled into thinking he wants to stay cause it's Widnes. if there were Super league clubs sniffing around then why hav'nt they made him an offer? Who are they? He came to us from a Super league club because he could'nt get a game did'nt he? If Widnes wanted him so bad why did'nt they improve their first offer and use some of the money they have saved from the released players? It's just a publicity drive to boost VIQI funds and save the clubs own money, you don't make a million by spending your own money!

what is your problem with viqi, it is the only way fans of the club can donate a pound a week and be garanteed the money will be used for player recrutment

Exactly. So what's the harm in that?

Everything it seems... You're not allowed any attempts to coerce people into supporting what is a worthy and beneficial cause to the club and the rugby league community of the town as a whole.
Bulldog, I suggest you get down to O'Neills on Saturday so you can ask Anthony himself why he hasn't jumped at the offers of SL from these other clubs... Though I doubt even he himself can convince you that these efforts are entirely honourable and to our benefit.

I'm not having a go at Thackery, he is a good player and i want him to stay, if the club really want him to stay and he is the one to lead us into SL them pay him what he is worth to keep him.

Do you not understand the situation with Thackery at all or are you now continuing to say these things just to annoy people?

I read every programme cover to cover......Thacks regularly says that he wants to stay at Widnes..........surely there is a common ground to be found?
Mark Smith was desperate to stay at Widnes and would have taken a pay cut to do so............
I understand before I get shot down that the Club have a vision for the future squad, but is it right to set this precedence? I won't be contributing to VIQI, I contribute to the Club in numerous different ways, I need to tighten my belt and it is down to them to manage their salary cap. I have had a significant salary cut and I have to cut my cloth accordingly. This is a Club issue and they should resolve it.
And getting back to the original TOC article, great to hear the passion for the sport and the Club from the man. However, surely he could begin to change the kids in the park if he wanted to by simply taking a ball down there and getting them to join in for half an hour. Problably just missed the best opportunity when they were on holiday.
That is my grumble over

Do you know they haven't made him an offer?

No, we signed him from Featherstone because we realised he would be a valuable asset to us. Sean Long couldn't get a game at Wigan. He wasn't so bad was he?

And.....................?
I'm sure a few clubs at the last round of licensing were told to increase their stakeholders i.e. benefactors as well as supporters. Maybe S O'C is trying to demonstrate that we are able to tap into funds other than his own back pocket all of the time. It demonstrates sustainability.

I am joining VIQI to help my club and not just for Thackeray, but maybe other players who are decent.Every little bit helps, but i would not want Thackeray taking the
tizer
and taking far too much.He is a good player, but in Superleague i see him as a bench player. So lets all be realistic and even VIQI i hope are sensible.Joanne and Jason run it and i must admit i take my hat off to them.

If he was tbh I think the club would of just said sorry but no thanks, whereas they seem very keen (thankfully) to keep hold
Bulldog people keep explaining what it is and why it's more about VIQI then Thacks and also why they are paying for it and not the club (cap etc) yet negative comments on it keep coming either way!
