Widnes Vikings' Super League license application has received a boost with the announcement that Vikings under-18s star Grant Gore has been named as Paul English's Academy Hotshot for the month of October.

The accolade is contested for by players across every junior age group and from every Super League, Championship and Championship 1 team.

Gore's recognition this month is further evidence of the outstanding development work going on at the Stobart Stadium as the Vikings prepare what they hope will be an irresistible application for a Super League licence next summer.

18-year-old halfback Gore has been in outstanding form for under-18s coach Phil Finney this term, and is destined for a bright future as a Widnes player.

Very well deserved IMO.  Danny Craven had grabbed the headlines by being rushed into the first team butb Gore has continued to guide the team to brilliant wins over SL opposition.

When the two play together who knows ?

I have watched the academy several times, and Grant Gore has stood out more than Craven in my opinion. But a good problem to have as both are going to be stars.Future is black and white. Wink

Well done Grant Gore, only started watching the academy side in their last few weeks but he really stood out as a taleny, always best half on the pitch from both sides too... interesting all the others that really stood out for me have now made the first team so I can see Gore getting a run in pre season and then being on the frindges next season!

Havent been to watch the academy this year so havent seen them play. I have however seen Al Brown, Craven and Alex Gerrard and have been impressed so Grant must be a quality player to win it over these players aswell as every SL player

Saw Gore and Craven playing at half back.  Then when Danny Craven went into the first team squad Gore was partnering Gilmore from the u16's with equal success!

I would agree with Ratboy that Gore seems to be the 'general' and ball distributor.  Outplayed Ben Karalius when they played Saints!

Congratulations Grant and thoroughly deserved. Anyone who has seen this young man play will be equally impressed with his attack and defence. Seen him cut some props and second rowers right down to size this year,  and sometimes in a halfback that is rare, couple that with a definate turn of foot and grit and determination (non more so than against the tykes) and it wouldn't surprise me one bit, if in the next few months you will be sitting around a table signing another piece of paper. Wow that really is some achievement for a junior who has been thrown straight in to the deep end. All bodes well for the future.

Very much deserved. He'll be on the fringes next year, me thinks.  Good half and will go far in the game, hope he stays at Widnes for a long time.

As has been mentioned Craven named as full back in Championship team and also Widnes 18s mentioned as argueably the best Academy team so far this season.

Great article on Grant Gore.Talks about the courage he showed at the victory over Leeds at Headingley when he broke his finger badly. He needed pain killers to get it put back in place but then went back on the field and played a large part in helping the team win the game late on.

Club are quoted as saying he is a "real tough nugget and a good competitor", "leads the team well", "Has such a good kicking game, he can organise well, and can lead a team, and he's an inspirational individual and a tough defender". "Certainly a kid we are looking at for the future because he has got all the right attributes and is constantly working at his game". "We are blessed with good halves but he has already gone past a few and we feel that he could be the next one to break through".
