With Steve's Widnes connections, any suggestions who the major signing might be?

Just thought.................

Should this be in General Rugby League?

If so, please move it mods!

Thank you!

Either of them would be a good signing for the Lions.

With the players already signed up Smithy could make a real impact.  Hopefully he could really enjoy a less stressed atmosphere and simply enjoy his footy again!

And would make quite an impact in Championship 1.

heard from a guy from the rfl whod been speaking to mark that the only offers hed had had been from champ 1 sides, so i wouldnt be suprised.

however, he did also say that in 2012, two sl teams would make way for widnes and leigh, regardless of leighs ability to apply, so i would take it with a pinch of salt hah

Someone at HQ said to me the other day that "Widnes are just treading water until Super League now" - make of that what you will. I think it's fairly obvious to anyone that a) we meet the 5 criteria, and b) we are the strongest Championship club, and with the RFL likely to introduce a new team, then we're favourites.

It could well be Mark Smith. I think Swinton's training set up will allow him to get a decent job as well (for RFL ?). Not sure he hasn't spoken to Championship clubs, but he needs to make a living, which means either as a full time player (SL only), a player given a job by the club (probably all already filled) or a full time job and a less demanding training regime (Championship 1). If it is Mark it'll be a great boost. Could even be Smith AND Doran ...

Would be a shame if it was Mark Smith. He still has plenty to offer and is far too good for Swinton.

A little bit of a pompous remark I would suggest!

A player is only as good as the club than wants him. Swinton is a Champion 1 side that has had some bad seasons since Station Road was sold, but is still definitely a club that deserves a lot of credit for keeping the game going. If Mark Smith signs for Swinton it could be the start of a resurgence, and I would sonner see Swinto in Super League than Crusaders or Catalans.

Be good to see Lee Doran back at the club where he started his career but we will find out on Monday night when the mystery is solved at the Swinton Meeting
