Permission has now been given for the go-ahead for the new Stadium which will retain Wakefield's Super League place, according to the BBC Teletext service.

Well it sounds like they might have a decent bid come 2015 to regain their SL spot because for my money they are still the short favourites to get the boot. Outline planning permission means that they are still some way off actually putting spade to ground. I've heard a 48 week build for the stadium being mentioned but Salford's 52 week build seemed fairly short.

I think the RFL clarifed that they would actually need to be in and playing by the time the 2012 season starts to have new grounds considered.

On proposed finish maybe not in time for KO 2012

Quote from: BIGAL1
That'll do me, as long as they only need to finish bits off the RFL will not be able to overlook it.

If we have to go to Barnsley for a few games then so be it.

Oh they know so little... go ask our Leigh friends about that! At the end of the day the RFL will know who they want out and like they did with us and Leigh they'll just manipulate anything they can so their point seem's valid.

48 weeks from scratch to finish? Not a chance im hell!

So they have the go-ahead subject to :
1 "the removal of a direction by the Highways Agency concerning travel plans "
2 "the possibility of a public inquiry"
3 "Leeds City Council had described the plan as "an intrusion into the green belt". Some residents said it would ruin views."

So when they submit their bid, in April next year, exactly how far along will it be? No consideration should be given to that regarding their licence bid in my opinion, as someone has said 2015 may be a different story, but as far as bidding for 2012-14 they have not made any advancements since the last round, bye bye Wakey...

There is one item on Wakefield's RL Fans page showing a £450,000 house for sale directly due to the new development and plenty of other properties are on the market. I can not see local residents giving up without a fight if some would sooner sell up if the go ahead is given and some fans are even joking by saying "what a great house to spend winter in the conservatory watching the building. What would you sooner look at open fields and a river or a container port and stadium Huh

Its a con. A mystery man with no name will save the club, but only if they get planning permission. You couldn't make it up... or could you? I like Wakefield but, like all of the others, they have had 15 years to build a new stadium and done nothing. Ditto the 'Jungle'. I remember being shocked in our first SL away game against Cas. Whilst we had wandered in the wilderness there had been so much talk about the great strides made by SL clubs, teams like Hunslet not being promoted because their stadium wasn't up to it and all the lists of conditions to meet before you were allowed to join this elite band. Then we got to Cas and basically walked into Wheldon Road (THE JUNGLE) with a tent erected behind the stands. My jaw hit the floor!

When Widnes had their ground aproved" in outline" everyone (team, local residents, club, HBC) wanted it built, can anyone recall how long that took from 'outline planning permission' to finishing construction of the first stand?? And that is with everyone WANTING it built.

Wakefield got promoted in 1999 with the promise of ground improvements which never materialised and they got a licence last time with the promise of a new ground.  The proposal for Wakey's new ground were then dropped less than 3 months of their being awarded a licence.

So 2 years ago it was dropped on grounds of expense, and wouldnt have been ready until 2012, so how 2 years on is it any cheaper, and can be ready by the same time??
"A feasibility study and business plan for the new community stadium, which would have seen the Wildcats relocate from their current Belle Vue home, claimed that the development at Thornes Park would cost £56m and would not be ready until 2012."

The new stadium development isn't at Thornes Park, that all fell through. It is now at Newmarket.

So does that mean they can build it more quickly?

Yes. Didn't you know they have them super human (free to use) building robots in Newmarket that work 24 / 7 without supervision only stopping for 4 hourly oil checks and re-fills if required. You simply input the agreed plans and the rest is done for you, cuts out the no shows, lateness, sloppy workmanship etc. etc. They are even able to order supplies. Wink
