Whatever style of forward play we adopt, it is essential that we have the half-backs to make it work. We were hamstrung last season even when we had Webster that we couldn't turn the bigger packs around and tire them out because our kicking game was so woeful. Webster at least got them organised, but all to often we played into the arms of the bigger slower packs by taking it up the middle ourselves.

As frustrating as it is we still dont know what the squad is going to finish up like, so there is no point speculating as to our style of play. I know there are a few saying well that is more or less it recruitment wise, in which case most of us think we are going to struggle. A few more hopeful messages are now starting to emerge, admittedly so far without any substance, suggesting we may be announcing some further signings as players current contracts with their clubs expire.

In my book recruitment isn't over until the Club say so, so I will remain the eternal optimist! My grounds for optimism relate to the quality of those players recruited so far, who have enhanced the squad. Yes there is disappointment at the seemingly deliberate loss of Smith and Doran, and of Gannon (but it at least appears we tried to keep him!).

So the doom and gloom will only kick in from me when I know for certain that we are going to be short of those 3 or 4 players we would all like to see!

Interesting one, I very much doubt we'd go for him, and he'd move all this way to drop a division, but I can't see a SL club touching him now after being so poor for Wakefield, he seems like he's fallen out of love with the game and if John Kear can't get him playing again, I don't know who can.  He's been awful for them.

An on form Paul Cooke would be very good in this league, but no ones seen that Paul Cooke for about 3 years!
