Bloody hell, will people please stop misinterpreting me.  I said I would like a return to the 'traditional' strip and have since explained this refers to the original design of Widnes Rugby League Clubs kit of hoops.  I gave the Hull kit as an example igneous and posted pics of 'The Chemics' in bygone years.  Is this not clear guys?

I didn't say I wanted about like That of Hull FC, I said I wanted a 'traditional' kit similar to the original Chemical kit, which is black and white hoops, like Hull FC.

I, and I think others, are with you on this one.  I would just love to see the Vikings in black and white hoops!

Is this really a subject that merits such frivolity? Even the title. You open the thread expecting to read something about home kits and are met with news of wigan, hull fc and ctiticism of old style kit. For all you know there may be people who read this board who know or are related to people who designed the hooped kit. Its not a subject for humour, IMHO.

Not sure where the 'humour' comment came from own brain but my original post was simply to state that it would be nice for a return to tradition.  My Wigan kit comment was to point out that their kit has broken from tradition completely and their cherry and White hoops have disappeared to be replaced by, what looks like blood and vomit mixed together.

Christ the post police are out in force tonight. A hooped shirt would be the biggest selling shirt of all time, I have not bought a Widnes top in years because they have been cola! And the oneills stuff is not great, this years away top proves how cola they have been.
Our training range is good though polos, hoodies etc.

Anyway, back on topic ha ha.  Didnt we have a hooped shirt around 1995 for the rugby league centenary??  If i remember that was quite a good shirt.

The stuff we are getting from o'neills i personally think are some of the best weve had for years, esepcially the choice we have, although I can understand why some might not like some of it.

No they're not. The current gold price is £28767 per kilo. If you take an average SL centre, say George Carmont, 91 kilos, that works out at  £2,617,797. No-ones worth that

Perhaps we are saving the 1964 tsyle black and white hoops for our return to Super League. A return to the top flight in our 'traditional' colours. I know our greatest achievements World Champions, League Champions all occured in the 1980's and not in black and white hoops, I just thought it would be good timing to return to our rightful place in the top flight wearing our 'traditional' colours of black and white hoops.

Will we see the latest 'home' shirt on Sunday or will we be showcasing the  Clementine & Cement away number?

i think we should stop living in the past to be honest, black and white hoops yeah its good for the "traditional fans" but would it really sell well as a replica shirt? maybe a few hundred as a gimick, but we're living in the modern day so we need to keep with the current style to maintain sales. It's a new club since o'connors took over so we shouldn't be reverting to the past. I'm sure someone will shoot me down but i dont see any other clubs going back to their old shirts (rugby wise)

Yes that's right..... cant see Saints playing in all white with a red 'V' this year, it's so 1960/70s. God forbid Wigan playing in cherry and white hoops Wink

I can see the appeal of harking back to the hopped shirts of old, but would tend to think that in modern times the hooped Michelin-man look may not have the appeal with fans (or players!) that some might expect!

Can't agree with comments that home kits have been rubbish for years either, I'm afraid. In my eyes, last years was a cracker and will take some beating!

As an aside thought - do other clubs websites have so much debate on the shirts, or is this a Widnes thing? Wink
