I was there that day. A great kick from the touchline by Mick Burke to seal the victory. Shame that wasn't on the clip.

Yes happy days. I was there too. We were so fortunate to see so many finals in that era around 28 or so. I only missed Leigh in a Lancashire cupfinal due to a holiday.

Eddie Waring not finishing sentences such a shame. Given what we know now of Eddie's health he should have been let go a few years before he actually finished.

As regards to the goal that one by Burke was one of only 2 that stick in my mind over all the years of following the game the other was Lee Crooks tying up a test at Elland Rd V The Kiwis at 6 - 6.

It exists, I have a very ghostly VCR-to-digital recording somewhere. Burkey looks quite thin compared with his later, reubenesque, figure.

Spoke to Mick about that goal recently.  He said he didn't think he had hit it very well but it still went over.

It was a great goal and Mick always did it under pressure. I'm still not sure that I've ever seen a player with more natural ability than Burke. He was fast, strong and used to take passes off his toes, linking into the line very much in the way modern full backs do. I'm not sure modern coaches would have liked the weight he carried though.

I was stood on the sidelines, right in line with that kick so I could see it going over all the way.
What nobody mentioned on the commentary was the excellent catch made by Burke from the kick-off at full stretch right by the touchline.

Ray French is I believe coming to the end of his broadcasting career, his sentences are repeatedly finished by Alan Chisnall.

He is only 72, but I think he is looking to retire.
