Over the past few years time and again we are given a penalty under the sticks - we decide to run it.
How many times do we score a try? Today we had the chance to level the score and get the ball back but chose to run the ball - no resultant points. We have done this in previous years and lost matches. When will the coaches learn.

Because we were putting heavy pressure on them and had three sets on their line.
You don't go for 2 if you're that close to getting 6.
Hindsight is lovely. If we had kicked the two, dropped the kickoff and they scored people would be saying 'why did we take the two'

Our coach would have insisted on taking the penalty in his previous position.

The modern day thinking is that if you take the two it is a sign of weakness and have little confidence of scoring a try. The problem we have is that Tyrer hasn't looked as good a goal kicker as I remembered him last time for us.

Its not even with hindsight. In a close low scoring game you take the 2 points. Especially as Hunslet were knackered, only got that last try because we were trying silly stuff throwing it all over the place. Very bad decision not to take the easy 2 (on the 10 occasions we could of!) points and deffo cost us the game.
We shouldnt of even been in that position though. Everytime we got near their line it was like everyone was bashing the panic button, such a shame as we started the season so well.

Maybe the fact that 3 points in Union make a penalty a much more attractive option?

So would the 5 point try but they still take the kicks.

Yes because they lack the necessary skill to actually score a try

And we actually did get over the line but their doggedness prevented us grounding.I think we felt we were good enough. They did the same
