denis betts said we came to win on the radio merseyside interview, he was refering to the penalty decison. ok we won but personally i think we should of went for goal and took the 2 league points for a draw.

No they were signalling to keep it rolling which is OK if you are going to attack their weakest wing, but we weren't doing that!!!

Good job you're not the coach. Look at the reaction to a win... Imagine if we'd drawn - You'd've got the sack

Totally agree Gary, we take the 2 and they go up field and instead of putting it in touch allowing us to score from the resulting scrum, they would take a DG attempt and if succsessful take the game.

we would of got 2 points instead of 1, i know you can argue we might of scored the try. and ok they might of got a dg but we would of got a chance of a dg to. just my opinion  Roll Eyes take the 2

But we didn't get one point. We got three.
You can't argue that at all. You can speculate about what might have happened if we had taken the two (eg we may have knocked on from the restart and they may have scored from the resultant scrum...) But you can't speculate that we may have lost the game if we hadn't taken the two. We know what would have happened if we didn't take the two. We'd have scored the winner in the corner a second before the final hooter!

We were tiring them out in the second half. Running the penalty instead of kicking it was a no brainer.

Fair enough mate, I probably agreed at the time but hindsight is a great thing on both sides.

1st tackle from tap we nearly bust over and it was an unforced error from Coyle that lost it so hard to say whether it was right or wrong! Yes if lost could have pointed back to that moment but luckily we won leaving it all if's and but's  Grin

TBH it really has to be the captain on the field who is in the best position to judge.  If the defence is out on its feet, then go for the try.  Easy from the stand in hindsight!

I was really happy we didn't take the two! We had all the momentum and it shows they wanted the win and not the draw!

The easy option would of been taking the two, but then what if they did a short kick off and dropped a goal?

I agree people would of come on here if we didn't score that try moaning, but it doesn't take much for a Widnes fan to moan!!

Scoring in the last second is always the best thing anyway  Grin Like that wonderful night back in Batley...

Isn't the decision not to take the kick a non argument anyway given that we went on to score and win?!

He also said that "we did not want to take the penalty and end up defending our own line from the restart" which is exactly what did happen as we turned over possession on the next drive or conceded a penalty and they were on our line with us still being 2 points behind with minutes to play.   As it happened we scored the best try of the game and won so it did not make any difference.
