You mean like we struggled in our first season in SL.
This point really tizers me off, we will be spending the full cap so there is no reason we cannot finish higher than the bottom three.
IMO if we had recruited a better coach then it would have helpedd with player recruitment
qute] Will we?? i thought our owner said if we get near to the 7k stronghold memberships figure we would, but at the moment that figure sits around the 4k mark, some way short of 7k and therefore i would be surprised if we spent upto the full cap amount.

As ever Mick - A happened therfore B has to happen. what happened in our first season in SL has as much relevance now as how we went in the Kancashire Cup in 1925 - and I'll bet you can't see what I'm talking about again.

We are an average squad in a poor league. Next season we will (based solely on what we have signed so far) have a slightly better squad in a beter league. we will compete with some teams - if we play well - but won't be able to compete with others. I'm not talking about what our squad was like a decade ago, or what we were like in the mid-late 80's (although there are still quite a fewon this firum who can't). Again, WE ARE AVERAGE NOW - and it doesn't matter  atuppenny oss what we wer like ten years ago or how you think we might be in your head. And tell me again - what did our magnificent entry into SL last time achieve precisely ? How's about we builod step by step and stop playing the league equivalent of premier manager ? If wew can't face reality sensibly (and God knows not everybody on here can) then we will never improve.

We missed the play offs by a whisker and our coach was voted coach of the year. The point is John there is no reason with the right recruitment  and coaching we could do it again  Grin

Granted it could - but it seemed to me that what you were saying hasd it down as a foregone conclusion cos it's happened in the past (even though for all our good showing we ended up with nothing and within  a couple of years we were back where we started ...

Forgot to ask before - how do you know we will be spending up to the limit ?

Betts has been given a budget of £1.5m with the option to increase to £1.65m if we can get enough SH members.

Not sure if anything official has come from the club but its been in a few papers like the widnes weekly news and league express.  Think our biggest problem is we have to sign up a whole squad where the likes of wakey, salford and cas probably only have to sign a few players to improve.

I've read it too John in the last few weeks - just went on the Official WV site to see if it was in the news archives and from 27th July there is a huge bit missing, the next archived item is 11th April!!  It could be in amongst that lot!   Cheesy
