A great start to the season has been rewarded for both Runcorn Linnets & Runcorn Town...

RUNCORN TOWN FC leading scorer JAMES McSHANE was voted the North West Counties Premier Division Player Of The Month for August

From the League Website.....

Player Of The Month Awards For August

PREMIER DIVISION – JAMES McSHANE OF RUNCORN TOWN

Runcorn Town hotshot James McShane has started life in the Premier Division as he ended it in the First Division - by scoring goals.

After topping the goalscoring charts last season by scoring 43 goals in all competitions, McShane is already leading this seasons charts having scored 10 goals in Runcorn's seven games in August. And although goals create headlines, it is the manner of his performances which have impressed with three Man of the Match awards also won so far.

James never stops running throughout the games, he can hold the ball up extremely well and knows where his teammates are at all time. His pace surprises many who come up against him, and because he is good with either foot, he gives defenders a torrid time.

James' first three goals of the season perfectly showed his versatility - a left footed effort against Padiham, a right footed goal on the break against Winsford United and a header against Bacup Borough. He also claimed two assists against Bacup as Runcorn picked up their first win of the season.

Against Stone Dominoes, McShane found the net twice and was awarded his first MoM award, with two goals and another MoM added against Brighouse Town in Runcorn's first ever FA Cup game. Against leaders Barnoldswick Town, McShane showed his predatory side by claiming the final touch in the box after a corner wasn't cleared to put Runcorn ahead, and despite losing the match, he picked his third successive MoM award for his display.

In the final game in August, McShane again scored twice in a 2-2 draw at Congleton Town. His 11th minute penalty ensured that he scored in every game in August, and he followed up in the 44th minute with his second of the game, capitalising on a poor defensive header to lob the ball over the keeper and stroke the ball into the net.

RUNCORN LINNETS manager PAUL McNALLY was awarded the North West Counties Premier Division Manager Of The Month for August
