The RFL have said a statue will be erected at Wembley Stadium of a Rugby League legend and fans will have a say on who it will be.

Which Widnes player would get your vote? Mine would be Vinty Karalius, having coached and captained Widnes to victory there aswell as playing for Saints. They will probably go with Shaun Edwards or Ellery Hanley......

Good shout, but we really should have done something about getting a plaque or similar for him here in Widnes.

He used to scare me a bit when I was younger. Roll Eyes

My vote would be for Ellery without question!

At Wembley we'd have to go taking a leaf out of football's book for a National as opposed to Club Figure.
Dave Valentine - Captain of the first Rugby World Cup Winning side / Frank Myler Captain of the last ashes winning side / Clive Sullivan Captain of the last British Rugby League World Cup Winners.
Or maybe Jim Sullivan first scorer. I guess he was also the winning captain in 1929 ?

I'd go for this chappy too. Is his undies aswell. I remember the year we played Leeds he climbed into the roof girders with his Black & White Flag & watched the whole from up there.

Good shout on Valentine and Jim Sullivan, Never thought of thim. Problem with being "the last" at something it is always there to be broken, As much as Id love a statue of FM at Wembley as last winning ashes captain it can be broken (Ive no doubt GB will return in ashes action). I think the FM one should be at our place. Id vote for Vinty myself as winning player, captain and coach but is he the only one? Id vote for Edwards as most CC medals etc but again, It CAN be beaten. Hanley, I dont see the need for statue at Wembley, great player but did much at Wembley? One thing I am sure of is it should NOT be Don Fox, Yes its a massive Wembley moment but why? Because he missed a goal?   Huh
I personally like the idea of a miner emerging ala St Helens roundabout type lifting the CC from the mine, Signifying the birth of the game

Clive Sullivan MBE is worth considering. The first black player to captain the British Lions, a great player and a true gentleman.

But as a Widnesian Nat Silcock a great Widnes player for a long time would be my first choice.

How about Lance Todd?

I thought of him but he is a New Zealander.
At Wembley the statue probably should be British.

Good call that Mick, seeing as any England team would get knocked out of ITS A KNOCKOUT.

The Bobby Moore statue is outside Wembley for a great event that happened at Wembley.

It is hard to think of any British RL player who has had such a great moment at Wembley which will register with not only RL fans but the general public as well.  There have been some excellent suggestions and I wouldnt like to choose who it should be but it wouldnt surprise me to see them go for a modern player, captured in full flow or in his knees after scoring THAT try against Leeds.
