I'm not sure, but..................

Hypothetical situation, and.................

It's your mob's call, and Steve O'Connor looks Eddie straight in the eye and says "It's been a huge decision, and after a lot of talking, we've decided that Widnes Vikings will play Swinton Lions."

I know that certainly I personally would be even more fired up to come to the Stobart and put one over on you, and I'm pretty confident that the lads in blue on the park would be of a similar ilk!

But let me ask you this - Is the system a farce or not? Yes or no?

Spelly.

I wasnt trying to defend the clubcall anyway
My initial point was that each year, the top team has chosen the bottom team, which is what would have happened anyway, hence its a waste of time
Your point actually defends it by saying that it gives extra motivation to the picked team?

Why does it defend it?

Yes it gives motivation to the selected team, but where do I say I defend the system?

I don't defend things I don't like. and I certainly don't like Club-Call! It should be kicked out, in fact, it should never have started!

The play offs were introduced when there were 30/32 teams in one league and they didn't play all the clubs.  And even then there were only 4 teams contested it. They should be got rid of completely & an club cross nation tournament introduced with clubs from the UK, France Romania etc at the end of the season. It could even be called the Expansion Cup.

I quite like the play-offs, and let's face it, they're here to stay, coz the RFL are not gonna miss out on the dosh that's generated from a full Old Trafford, and Sky.

On saying that, eight is (far) too many in my opinion, and I'd be more than happy with a top four system - 1 v 4, and 2 x 3, with the winners going to OT, thus making the scenario that's title of this thread, totally redundant.

I love going to the Grand Final, and from a selfish point of view, would not like to see it to disappear!

I can already hear you mumbling summat like "Would you feel the same way if this season you'd finished top (as we did) and then missed out on promotion if you'd been in the play-offs, and didn't win it?" And of course I would feel distinctly dis-chuffed, but we all know the rules before a ball is kicked, and I've have to accept the situation!

But going back to the thread title - The Club-Call should go!

Without promotion and relegation, its a bit of a farce anyway. It would be better to award the team at the top of the league the title of Super league Champions, then have an extra set of games run on a straight knockout basis with every team involved...highest club gets home advantage

1st v 14th
2nd v 13th

etc etc....straight knockout, no 2nd chances and given that every team can be beat it would keep some interest with a GF still to take place at the end.

1st and 2nd could have the first weekend off, 3-14 play 3 v 14, 4 v 13 etc.

6 winners with 1 v  lowest finisher left in , 2 v next lowest etc.

2 semi finals then GF.

It wouldnt take much working out with 14 teams, maybe even just give the top 2 a BYE......3 v 14 play off to leave 6 teams plus top 2, every round played gives home advantage to highest finisher in Super league, semis could be played on the road, Grand Final at Old Trafford....start the season with a Charity shield, winner of SL plays Winner of GF....again, on the road, maybe as a curtain raiser at Twickenham prior to one of the 6 nations games!!

Which club will employ him after being sacked so early on in the Super League season?  Shocked Kiss
