NWC Round-up courtesy www.barla.org.uk:

Pilkingtons closed the gap on neighbours Clock Face Miners to one point at the top of the North West Counties Premier Division with a 14-2 success at Golborne Parkside.

The first half was scoreless, but after Stuart Arkwright landed a penalty for Golborne, the visitors took control with tries from Owen Livesley, Ryan Hilliyard and Chris Rees. Danny Lynch kicked a goal.

Best for Golborne was prop Adam James, while his opposite number, Chris Rees starred for Pilks.

Clock Face went down for the second week in a row, this time by 16-10 to Widnes St Marie’s. Ian Scott put St Marie’s in the lead with a try, goaled by Lee Birdseye. Clock Face levelled with a try from their star man Adam McGowan, goaled by Martin Hutton to make it 6-6 at the break.

Two tries from outstanding second rower Dave Jones, plus a Birdseye goal, sealed the victory although Clock got the final try from Steve Taylor.

Blackbrook got a scare before running out 25-16 winners at Wigan St Cuthbert’s.

Trailing 18-6 at half-time the Wiganers hit back to 19-16 only to see John Glover grab an injury time try to send Blackbrook in for their win.

Blackbrook’s other tries came from Greg Hale, Dave Scott and Lee Marsh, who also kicked four goals and a drop goal. Martin Charnock, Jamie Dalimore and Craig Keating scored tries for St Cuthbert’s with Anthony Houghton kicking two goals.

Matty Lowe was the pick of the home side Steve Marsh best for Blackbrook.

Halton Simms Cross moved into the last eight of the Premiership Cup with a 38-14 victory over Ashton Bears, thanks mainly to the Kavanagh brothers.

Brendan scored four tries and Kris two, with Alan Billington and Danny Price adding the others. Price also kick two goals and Craig Noon one.

Star scrum-half, Dean Hunt, Mark Bohanan and Kieron Spruce claimed tries for Ashton who trailed only 14-10 at half-time. Matty Melling kicked a goal.
