My part of the board ( as a member ) is where ever I choose to post
As a Born & bred Dittoner and Widnes fan I reckon I am entitled to post and comment on this message board just as much as you ( I will read the AUP tho just in case I missed the section for permission by you )
BTW that
spangles
summer league is getting stronger and stronger each week
and has not done BQB any harm at all as the results against the stronger NWC league teams is proof.
There is proberbly less chance to play ringers in the summer which is why you don't like it

All he is saying is " why did you not have the same morals with insurance last season when your team played a ringer ( allegedly ) therefore making the other 16 players ( which included you ) un-insured
And also had to laugh at your post, short memory you pal!

Summer is the way forward let's face it fellas its a no brainer plus on the up side better youth sections could be developed this way I believe with more attraction of playing in summer being the key!!!

I have to disagree, i dont think summer is the way forward, apart from being a traditionalist where my belief is a sign of a good team is being able to adapt to playing in different conditions, wind, rain sunshine and snow rather than just pretty much one condition (although i am aware we live in widnes so the summer could potentially bring any weather condition), those high scoring games with loads of tries are good and entertaining but so is a close tight game trawling through the mud waiting for one team to eventually crack, some of the best games i've been involved in have been games where no more than 10 points have been scored.
Although summer will have some benefits I believe playing Summer will have 3 big issues:
1- Players will become unfit and potentially obese and be lost too the game throughout the winter as Pre-season will have to be carried out during the winter months when statistically training numbers drop off anyway due to lack of all weather surfaces, long dark nights with awful weather were your unable to carry out training drills that are going to improve your skill set and generally people lose interest in the winter as after work the nice warm house is the more appealing option, so people wont be starting training until january when all they have done is sat at home and ate there way through the majority of winter wheras now pre-season is in the summer when people generally eat less and train more as they're more health conscious about looking good during the summer and then maintain fitness and body shape by playing through the winter, it's easier to play through the winter than train.
2- Playing Summer will almost certainly stop the amateur from progressing to professional ranks as many do now especially to the semi-pro ranks, if the pro season and the amateurs season are running together all the pro teams will be completed as they will have been unable to scout any amateurs to see if anybody was on form, surely the aim is not to stop progression and not to stop people achieving dreams.
3 - I think by playing summer you will also lose a few players who have children because i cannot see many partners putting up with minding the children for 6-8weeks during the summer school holiday monday to friday, looking for a break on the weekend when now the partner will be playing rugby saturday and most probably a few socialables saturday night with the weather being good which then technically could rule out sunday with the hangover and also the world is a more accessible place during the summer so entertaing the children and taking them to the paces you wouldn't go during the dark winter months, is big on the parents agenda.
Now dont all jump on saying well "man up" and "i'll just tell the Mrs" because as we all know its the women who pull the strings, men just think we do..!

All the points you make are fair BB.
I doubt I would be playing summer should WBS make the switch, My Mrs would go spare at me disappearing every Saturday when the kids are at home (and I wouldn't want to), I think its a shame the RFL didnt throw their £ at the winter game, as they are doing with this Summer thingy.

In addition to your superb post BB, the amateur game would definately lose players to Union / football in the winter months (i've already seen evidence of this), getting them back would be an issue.
Also, holidays would be a huge factor in playing numbers, how many people own caravans or spend quality time away with their families during the summer.
What everyone is forgetting is that all the youth leagues are now "summer" therefore when they progress to open age it will be very difficult to try and get them back to playing winter rugby again as they will have had many seasons to get used to the disruption and change.
I have been involved in both winter and summer rugby for quite a few years and loved nothing more than attending the game in shorts / tshirt and having a Magners or three in the sunshine after the game, happy times, but don't think its the future for all parts of the rugby community.
When the development leagues (Summer) started about 5 / 6 years ago, I always said that it would turn about face, Summer would be the majority with winter becoming the smaller season / league and it looks like I will be proven correct.

Lucky u guys don't play then aint it apart from u patto cos at the end of the day it will be the players choices that matter some points should have to be considered and I myself totally agree with them but the ways it's going there will be no competition left in the winter! And when people start complaining they will wanna leave just like pilks and Ashton have done and maybe brook and clockface too and alls I will say is I told u so ha ha !
