Wouldn’t it be good if Steve O’Connor could be persuaded to do a lap of honour and be presented to the crowd before the game against Wakefield so that fans could give him a standing ovation? As Widnes fans we owe Steve a huge debt. He has turned the club around and got us back in Super League where we belong. He has invested a fortune and he must know he’ll never get it back.
Our first game back in Super League is surely a great opportunity for Steve to do a lap of honour and I mean before the game. If we win the players will rightly get the applause after the game.
Tomorrow I am going to write to Viki, the Supporters Trust, the Black and White (club?ladies?) to ask them to support this idea and ask them to nominate individuals to walk around the pitch with Steve 10 minutes before kick off (he isn’t going to do it himself is he?) so that we ordinary fans have the chance to give him a standing ovation. This would be a brilliant gesture. It is the least he deserves.
I also think that if the fans get behind this proposal and the people who give their time and organise Viki, the Supporters Trust etc, (thanks by the way) that are close to people at the club, can persuade Steve to do a lap of honour then a crowd of 10,000+ would be a fitting tribute to the guy. I know it won’t be easy because Wakefield will only bring two car loads of fans but this is a special occasion and the people of Widnes and Runcorn should give a moment to say thanks. Having a Super League team in the community is so important for so many reasons. Also, to help do my bit I am going to phone the editor of the Widnes and Runcorn Weekly News tomorrow asking him to support an initiative to persuade Steve to do a lap of honour and encourage the wider population of Widnes and Runcorn to attend the game and say thank you to Steve.
p.s. I’ll have to write to Viki and the Supporters Trust through the club. Can someone give me a name to address it to? Also is there still a supporters club? Also is it the Black and White ladies club (or did I dream that?). Any info greatly appreciated. Anyhow, this is our chance, as fans, to do something for Steve – let’s not miss the chance!

The way to repay is either join the SH or at least turn up at the gate for the games

Dont worry about S'OC, he'll make plenty of money out of his investment with the Vikings, if not directly from Vikings but from links he'll have created.
He'll not have invested if there wasn't a reason for him doing so!!
He's a business man, not a mug!!

Exactly, SOC didn't get involved with Widnes because he loved the club, by his own admission he wasn't the biggest RL fan in the world, I'm sure now though he has bought into what he has tried to get the great public of Widnes to believe in, he had his motives when he acquired us and whatever they be I hope he's pulling it off, as long as he's involved with us I can't see any negatives.

It would all depend on his ego.
Let the players take the plaudits, SO'C can have the profits.
We don't want another 'Michael Knighton' type performance

No need to shout. Bin the Caps Lock Please. A nice little speech from him before Kick Off or at Half Time would be nice. We could show our appreciation then.

No they're not. The current gold price is £28767 per kilo. If you take an average SL centre, say George Carmont, 91 kilos, that works out at £2,617,797. No-ones worth that
galaxying legendary! Post of the year!!!!!!!!!!!!
