As a Liverpool fan myself, I'd have to admit I read a book about him last year and was very impressed with his values and how he conducts himself in general. He is a very shrewd and clever manager who only has his club's interests at heart when it comes to football. This news only reinforces that for me. Like him or loathe him he's kept United at the top of the game for a long time now

Oops, on reading that back it seems to imply that I was saying Ferguson only made the donation as part of some devious agenda. That isn't what I was getting at. I meant to say that I already had a lot of respect for the man, and this news has impressed me further

Any football fan who has no respect for his achievements is just a bitter fool. 26 years at the very top is outstanding. Unbeatable.

You only have to look at the amount of times United have been written off. Remember the "one-man-team" tag they had when Ronaldo was there. He left and that was the beginning of the end, well they were right to give United that tag, but only because Fergie is that "one-man" no-one else.

Agree with what you say Nudge but for me the article more reinforces the reputation of Ferguson the person rather than Ferguson the football manager.

Nah, people criticise his sometimes outspoken views and some say he goes over-the-top, but I can always remember when we had Houllier in charge it was always about his "plyers" he would never criticise referees in the same way as Fergie and although at the time GH was doing a very good job it was very frustrating when he very rarely had a go. Rafa was the same. I loved Rafa, still do, but, he wasn't nasty enough when we needed him to be. Don't get me wrong, when Kenny hangs up his bench jacket for the last time, there's only one man I want to take over and thats Rafa. When Rafa made his 'facts' speech he was right, but what he should have done was play the same game rather than highlight what everyone else already knew.

The BIG question comes when Taggart hangs up his bench coat.

Who do you United fans want as his replacement?

My opinion is that if Keane hadn't had a big falling-out with Fergie he'd be up there. Not sure if he's burned those bridges now though
