I bought a used car in November with a 3 month warranty, With 2 weeks left on the warranty the turbo has blown.

No problem i thought, warranty will cover this - Dealer seems to think otherwise though.

He tells me his warranty only covers engine and gearbox,to me a turbo is part of the engine - It is blowing huge clouds of smoke and affecting performance.

I think he is talking cola and trying to get out of paying.....anybody had a similar experience or know what my next step should be?

i think the only way is that items sold have to be fit for the purpose that they were purchased for , but after 10 weeks i dont think that argument would stand  Huh

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. Have you tried the, "Then we'll see what Trading Standards have to say" tack ? Speak to Citizens Advice as well. I have found warranties on cars to be worth less than the paper they are written on in the past.

To follow up from Abacab's advice I would also drop a hint that you might have a chat with a mate of yours at the Widnes Weekly News

Easy done, but takes some plums!!

Stand outside their showroom with your car and hand out leaflets to potential customers. Show them all the defects. Soon be fixed as a "gesture of goodwill"

How did you pay for it?

Cheers for the replies, paid on debit card.

Dealer actually suggested I ask trading standards,so he either knows he's right or just calling my bluff. After speaking to ts I think the sale of goods act may come into play as under 6 month old,any item bought should be 'fit for purpose'.

It's a long process now and in the meantime I have to shell out best part of 500 quid to get my car on the road and try to get payment back off dealer.

I just find it incredible that a car is undrivable inside warranty period and he refuses to help. Oh well.

Dodgy scousers   Wink

Ona serious note if you get no joy tell him you will name and shame him, write letters to the local papers etc or even stand outside his patch and scare customers away.
These warrenties tizer me off. From what little i know when you buy something its supposed to last a reasonable amount of time before going wrong. its a bit of a grey area but don't give up pal.
