Cheers for the replies, paid on debit card.

Dealer actually suggested I ask trading standards,so he either knows he's right or just calling my bluff. After speaking to ts I think the sale of goods act may come into play as under 6 month old,any item bought should be 'fit for purpose'.

It's a long process now and in the meantime I have to shell out best part of 500 quid to get my car on the road and try to get payment back off dealer.

I just find it incredible that a car is undrivable inside warranty period and he refuses to help. Oh well.

I work for a large bank so here is my advice.

Email the chief exec of the bank card you used to pay for the car. In your email go to town on how distressful the experience has become. Ask them for their urgent help in solving this issue.
Their payment solutions team should then pick this up for you and by-pass the usual delays. Hopefully this will get you the response you want and in a much quicker way.

I didn't think you had any right or protection when using a debit card, very interesting

Under the saled of goods act your product should work for a reasonable time and beyond all should be of good quality and fit for purpose. If not then advise the guy that you intend to lose him sales by informing potential customers of his poor service, you intend to name and shame him. Also write to your MP and go to town on his donkey.   Just be careful you don't slander him. Use nothing but fact.

You never know, he may offer you half or all the bill, not perfect but anything better than nothing.
