I'm very pleased today.

Lets be totally honest, I think the buzz took over a bit too much. Fans are saying it's the be all and end all because we lost today! Yeah, at the final whistle I was galaxying gutted! But to be honest, I hand on heart didn't expect a win today. A win would of been perfect obviously, but really didn't see one coming. And I'd be very shocked if any Widnes fan said they 100% believed we would win tonight. It was more hope than anything.

In reflection of the whole day, it was great to feel the buzz! It was great to be back. It wasn't so great to have a huge queue in the social club though  Wink Cheesy.

The fact is we had many key players missing tonight such as Watts, Briscoe, Phelps, Kite, Flynn, and who ever else I have missed out.

All of them players are going to add a massive impact to the team! Tonight was our first competitive game at this level! Things will only improve throughout the year and get better. We may lose a hell of a lot of games, but so what? What do we really expect? We are a newly promoted side and most the lads have never played together not mentioning a lot haven't played at this standard. I've not watched the game back yet but bar a few players the team did me proud tonight. We played decent rugby at times and could of easily won that game in the first half alone. The major thing that let us down was not being able to take advantage of sets on their line. But it's a learning curve, and on another night we would of won.

It's a bit frustrating that we seen Widnes perform like they did in the 60 minutes at Saints, as that would of well and truly beat most sides! But as I say, we had key players missing who performed really well in that game! I had a text from a Hull FC fan during the game saying we can take a lot of positives from the game, and that we had been playing well. They also mentioned how we made too many silly mistakes and gave away too many high tackles! This for me sums up most of the game.

The support tonight was outstanding. Everyone got behind the team for most of the game and the atmosphere was the best it's been in that stadium for a long time! Was a bit annoyed/disappointed to see fans leave early, but that's sport for you!

I also think Craven needs a big mention tonight. He played outstanding! For a young lad to play that well is brilliant. It shows we have a lot of potential for the future and have positive things to think about.

The main thing is that tonight isn't the end of the world. I would of loved a win more than the next person but it didn't quite happen for us! Widnes are back though. We have at least 3 years in Super League! We have a very young squad and a lot of time to build on it. Brilliance doesn't happen over night!! We need to realise that the team need a lot of time. We will get better with time and who knows, in three years could be fighting for top 6, in four years could be for top 3 or 2. But this season was always going to be tough. If we finish bottom then so be it, nobody is really expecting much more from us! But just because we lost tonight doesn't mean we are going to finish bottom.

This is a 3 year plan, and I for one look forward to being part of that!

Onwards and upwards!!!

can this be made a sticky?   Grin

Well said Efc, can't disagree with anything you said.

The whole "hype" of the event carried our expectations maybe beyond realism.  Lots of positives to build on, and lots of passion demonstrated by the Lads.

Good post son. Can't argue with any of that. Hope Craven gets a lot of game time this season. Huge potential that lad. He took his try very well too.

You know what? Spot on that man!

Yes a win would have been brilliant but nothing could beat that buzz and excitement as we stood as one and clapped and cheered when the team ran out and those massive flames blew up!!!  Can't for the life of me remember what the music was we played - there was Mission Impossible for Wakey (love it!) and that great tune that Wigan always play at the DW (lots of male voices humming - you know the one)... But what was ours?

And how many years has it been where you've had to queue for toilets?!!  Think it was in the open air ones in the old standing North stand in the 90's!!!

Last night showed what a privelidge it is to be in the top league - lets enjoy it and give the chairman and coach some credit.

Famous last words I know but let's wait and see....
