Like many fans he would have never had been my choice to lead us back into the top flight and i was stunned when he was given another contract, but i was prepared to give him another chance and support him in what we all knew would be a difficult first season back in Super League. But after watching all the pre season games and our first league game of 2012 it seems to me even with a near different set of players our discipline has not improved from last year so you have to ask the question is it the way the players are being coached.

Neither did half the North Stand

Only half?

The other half had either left for home or retired to the bar  Wink

Clarke had a very poor first half. He isn't a number 6. Craven should have moved to 6 as he was poor at full back. Failed to go for kicks and defensively was poor in a 1 to 1 situation.

Can't fault the players for effort. Betts simply is not up to the job. At half time he should have stopped the indiscipline there and then. Hanbury kept kicking the ball down Fox's throat all game. Poor tactics he simply is not good enough. Sorry to say.

I'd guess that wasn't the plan!

That was the problem unfortunately but with no Flynn, Briscoe or Phelps (Watts too obviously) there wasn't another FB option really!

Game changed when they switched at 9 in the end we didn't gave that option, Moore played full 80?

Though too add Clarke seemed to be 7 to Hanbury at 6 which wasn't the best idea as slowed the ball down!

Yes that did seem to be how they lined up, but we were definitely tighter defensively with Clarke, and more creative too

as predicted, by moi, several days previously. clarke was solid and professional, shifted the ball and defended well.

The problem is the team is making the same mistakes as last season.

1. Effort; cannot fault the lads, everyone gave 100%
2. Indiscipline, how many time must it be said to these players that you cannot get away with these cheap shots in the game.  Same last season, nothing has changed - Coach at fault.
3. Defensive Naivity, same last season as this; massive gaps left for the opposition to exploit - once again coach at fault.
4. Fitness - I am willing to give them time on this point as a lot of the team have not played at SL intensity and only game time will improve it.  If no improvement after 4 or 5 games then something has to be said for the coaching.
5. Set plays, no idea again, with Watts missing we should still have set plays and I saw nothing to say that this has improved - Coach at fault again.

I am sorry to say based on the evidence of the first game and preseason that the Coach simply is not good enough for this level.  He should be given a chance say in Championship 2 to learn his trade and then move up, but he has been thrown in the deep end and sorry to say he is struggling with basic modern game concepts.

Strange that Royce Simmons , Watts and Clarke all said in the program they have been impressed with Betts ways. Simmons thinks we will go well this season and will upset a few sides on our way.

Not the biggest of Betts fans but will give him sometime to prove his methods, obviously would be better if we have a fully fit squad to pick from each week.

I don't think Clarke should have played on Friday he was clearly injured as so much strapping on, Watts didn't play with a hammy problem so why risk Clarke. We have to look at the long term picture rather than play half fit players. I would have put Craven at 6 with Owens in at FB, or White at 6 Craven FB but don't play someone who is injured and risk worsening th injury. Blame is DB, Medical staff and possibly JC for saying he could play.

I thought we would get a post like that.

We had four more or less automatic choices missing, all in key positions, and in the second half Clarke was not on the field.
