Cross-fit is tough and does prepare you well for a wide range of sports  - but also has a load of hype & ridiculously exaggarated claims associated with it. I'd hope the club is using something with a bit more scientific backing and a bit less of the "before and after" fitness DVD stuff from tv shopping channels.

Don't see how anyone could conclude our fitness was worse than Wakefield. We had 8 or 9 consecutive penalties against us after Cahill's chargedown. Fittest team in the world couldn't cope with the other side being marched down the pitch by the ref 5 or 6 times on the trot.

in my experience as you tire, you become more sloppy / slower and thus are more likely to give penatlies away - not getting back onside, lazy efforts in tackling technique are two examples (i dont think we were dirty with the high tackles)

with everone saying how fast the game was last night i can only say this must be good  having a pitch that allows  us to play at this pace every other week plus train a couple times in the week on a fast surface  it can only improve players fitness and stamina quicker than the normal start of the season.

All I can say is, "Clive, what have you been doing ?". The season has started and our players only have 60 minute fitness. By the time they are all match-fit we will be well-and-truly established as the SL whipping boys.

I'm not usually one for doom and gloom but wait until teams like saints and Warrington, who are notoriously quick, come and play on our super quick surface  Undecided

Does anyone on the coaching staff know the fitness levels required for a super league team in 2012? Even from cullens days at wire things must've moved on. When we got our new conditioner did we not consider taking on someone with experience in super league? I make it 3 games wire, saints and wakey ( didn't go swinton) where we've fell away massively in the last quarter of matches. Obviously the players know the levels required but they aren't going to volunteer to do more work!

Dear Jim
If you don't play you aren't allowed to comment on matchi fitness....apparently as I found out when I made a similar comment on Friday evening!  Wink

Wakefield fitness coupled with our indiscipline won them the game. You don't need to have played the game to know that!

I dont think our fitness is a problem its our discipline, since DB and indeed going back to Mr.Cullen holding the coaching reins we have constantly been giving away stupid penalties and for long periods have been defending our own line which must play a part in the team running out of gas in the last 15 minutes or so,for me its not down to the conditioner-its down to the head coach who like Cullen talks a good game but can never solved this massive problem, which has not been going on for this season, this has been going on for the last 3 years-and it has to stop soon.

This is exactly right. On at least two occasions we gave away a penalty at the play the ball on the 5th tackle. On both occasions our defence had been good and Wakefield had struggled to get out of their 20 metre area. We then piggy-back them 30 yards down field with another six to come - is it any wonder when you multiply  this situation by up to 15 times (not always on the 5th tackle) that our players fade in the last quatre? Add to this a sin-binning and being a man short for the final 10 mins and it suddenly seems so obvious where our failings lie. Over to you on the discipline front, DB!

think the old saying of let the ball do the work applies here . tim smith could have played in a dinner jacket the second half and advanced wakey up and around the park. we just never had that luxury in the second half hanbury didnt have the second ball player to shift the ball quicker. we then got tied up around the ruck area and couldnt make any ground forward . we where starting our sets deeper and tired as a result of this.

for 20 minutes we matched them and then went ahead... 8 penalties against us with none in return helped with the marching us around the field, imo - again indiscipline.

Having watched the match again this afternoon I think a couple of things combined cost us the game. Firstly as most people have said discipline and needless penalty's increase the work load and tire the team. The lack of a second true half back is another . The over whelming factor for me was we lost the collision in both attack and defence. Win that and you play the ball quicker and slow theirs down. Lots of positives for me but work needed to fix faults.

Steve Roberts said on Radio Merseyside yesterday that the stats for possession in the second half were 70/30 in favour of Wakefield.  If that was correct then it would obviously be no surprise if we tired.
