Personally after watchin Ah Van kick through pre-season and last night he certainly was not showing his kicking class. I think that craven should of been kicking after watching him last year and didnt seem to shabby. Opinions?

He didn't look too good...Craven could ahve done better....I think Betts should look closeley at how it goes perhaps over the next 2 weeks and then, if it isn't looking better, try a change]

To be fair the kicks he missed were far out towards the touchline. He did kick the easier one near the posts.

Well thats alright then, maybe Betts can coach the lads to only score behind the sticks He missed kickable goals against Saints the other week. A reliable goalkicker is a requirement, Ah Van kicked 90 goals last season for the Bulls but I don't know what his percentage ratio was. Give him a bit longer but not convinced at mo.

He was also top points scorer at Bradford last year so he can't be all that bad. I know Bradford weren't great last year but it's still good going?

Before the last match of last season he needed 10 points for a total of 250 for the club, and had kicked 96 goals from 119 attempts for a percentage of 80.67%. But who knows perhaps they were all in front of goal. http://www.rleague.com/db/content/95000/95168.php

I think the disappointment was that his attempts from wide out were poor I dont think either of them actually made it past the try line. There should also be a rule that you dont attempt the conversion of your own tries as invariably you miss, I don't know why this happens maybe too much adrenalin is pumping through the system after scoring a try. I noticed that he wasn't putting too many through the uprights when he was practising before the game so maybe his touch had deserted him last night.
He clearly is an accomplished kicker and should be able to master kicking from everywhere at the Stobart

Ridiculous, the kicker for every team is always going to be the top scorer!

I think Ah Van failed to kick two conversions from the touchline due to the distance he had to kick from. The second attempt from the touchline demonstrated that. It is a well known fact that a ball does not travel as far in very cold weather. The golfers among you will know that.

Ah Van isn't really a recognised kicker. He just put his hand up at Bradford because nobody else wanted to do it. He did well, and now he's regarded as a kicker. As a result his technique may let him down from time to time. He had a decent strike rate last year. I suspect that he'll have to get used to the way the ipitch reacts during his run up too.

There doesn't need to be a rule in place.Anybody can take goal kicks as far as I am aware. The usual kicker isn't obliged to attempt the conversion of his own try,one of his colleagues can volunteer.

He went well last term, might be as well to persevere! Though Craven stepped up when asked, and I don't know/remember his success rate but seemed ok?

Totally agree! Some of the conversions he has missed have a long way off the mark (ie the one out wide on Friday)
