4500 at Salford tonight, bad weather to blame? First game new stadium, would genuinely have expected more

Bigger crowd at London !!! Looks like Salford have got more than an i-pitch to worry about.

The gate of 8120 was better than our previous SL opener against Saints which was 8700.Saints brought a good 3000 that night opposed to the Wakefield support of around 700.I make that a good 1700 more Widnes fans.Fantastic attendance for us.

Previous SL attendances against Wakefield:

29/3/2002   6,185
31/5/2003   5,179
17/8/2003   5,697
25/7/2004   5,104
17/7/2005   6,116

Average    5,656

Given the weather conditions and the live Sky coverage, an increase of around 45% on the above average puts friday's crowd into perspective. A great turnout!

A good attendance yes I thought 6,000 before game as it was live on sky. However most of the new fans left on 65-70 minutes does not bode well for them attending the next home game.

That and maybe the cold made the non regulars make decision to leave especially if they have young kids

How long has 8120 been more than 8700?  It's about 580 less isn't it? Wink

I'd guess cold and time more than anything as the game wasn't lost that early even if they had gone into the lead.

Hopefully the weather / time / SKY factor will balance out with those just coming as it was the first game and we can see our crowds settle around w similar level across the season.
