I predicted as much as soon as I heard we were getting an artificial surface. I thought it would be Eddie Hemmings over-exaggerating and blaming every injury on the ipitch rather than the players. People will, automatically, blame the ipitch for TC's injury. This is despite knowing that it also happens on grass. It's difficult to inspire confidence in new things, and it is always easier to look for reasons to doubt it than to look positively on it.

I hope that the RFL give the ipitch a fair chance before announcing it unfit for purpose. The clammer and fear from other clubs may force their hands though.

Get well soon Tommy

If the pitch had anything to do with it then odsal needs investigating as owens from cas broke his leg there. Ainscough for our 21s years ago did also. As does headingly chev walker broke his leg at headingly as did kirkham for our 21s years ago. Get a grip guys anyone who blames the ipitch for anything more than just grazes is talking spangles. Its a freak injury and i hope he makes a full recovery quickly. Ipitch will have no blame for anythibg but grazes and if they cant man up to deal with them they shouldnt be playin rugby.

I have. You've obviously missed the point that I was making, which was that others will not. In particular, the likes of Eddie Hemmings, who likes to sensationalise issues. It seems some players are doing the same. The fact that I foresaw this happening does not mean that I agree with them.

Hope he gets better soon. I'm currently recovering from a leg break n ankle dislocation n fracture, so know he has a long road to recovery so I wish him the best.  Don't see how ppl r linkin g it to the i-pitch as its not like his leg wud of got stuck in a rut, or stuck in the mud. Jus think its ppls ways of tryin to knock the pitch b4 its had a fair chance.

During Saturday afternoon's U20's game versus Wakefield Trinity Wildcats, Thomas Coyle suffered a compound fracture of his left tibia and fibula. Thomas broke through the line and offloaded a great pass and was injured whilst being tackled from behind.

He received immediate attention on the i-pitch from two Bucket and Sponge Doctors (John Morgan and Revelle Littlewood) and two club physiotherapists. Further expert help was gratefully received from the Wakefield physio. Pain relief and stabilisation of the clinical situation was quickly achieved and he was transferred to hospital where the fracture was replaced under sedation. Further to this, Coyle underwent further surgery to the injury on Sunday and the Vikings are confident of a complete recovery which might take a few months.

The club and its supporters wish Thomas a speedy recovery and we look forward to seeing him in a Vikings shirt in the not too distant future.

The Vikings would also like to thank Wildcats' coach Colin Maskill and his players and backroom team, who offered their best wishes after the game.

One massive improvement in the modern game is the progress in dealing with injured players - quite a step up from a man with a bucket of cold water and a sponge!!!

Watching one of our old games against Barrow and as soon as a man was injured ALL players stopped and called for medical attention - at it's best a tough man's game played by real sportsmen.

Hopefully Thomas will recover well and get the benefit from his obvious hard work in the pre-season. Keep up the weights (from the waist up) mate!

Completely agree - the RFL must take great credit in the progress which has been made in both injury prevention and treatment over the last few years. A physiotherapist accompanying U15, U16, U18, U20 and First team home and away and Doctors present for the First team home and away and U15, U16, U18 and U20 home matches is testament to the welfare that the players receive.

Widnes is at the cutting edge of this medical advancement and I am sure will soon be seen as the leader in this field given the pro-active approach they have instigated. Foundations are being laid that will reap massive rewards for the years to come.
