Although we lost I enjoyed Friday nights fare more than any game of last season or the last few years. This is proper rugby and game was competetive until the sin binning.

We do need an on field general though. Weak at half back and as I said last week unless Watts plays on the park regularly  (and hopefully he will) we may as well not have him on the books.
Some people's suggestion of Craven at number 6 is way off the mark. He is not yet big/strong enough and opposition would walk through him I fear. We badly need another play maker than just Watts though.

Sad to see most of the newcomers in South stand leave on 68 minutes - I just do not understand why people do it. Hopefully they will give the team more support nad not just pack it in.

Yes Wakefield is supposed to be one of weaker teams but i always wished we had got easier fixtures later on when we have settled a bit.

Personaly speaking, I find that comment very disrespectful to players who have tried their best for us over the last 7 years and to all the teams and players in the Championship and below.

Didn't we always complain about the arrogance of SL clubs....?  I had hoped Widnes fans wouldn't get drawn into it because we know how it feels from the other side, sad to see its only taken 1 game....

I would think The Pies are more disappointed than we are.

I thoroughly enjoyed the game and the difference in pace compared to the last few years was  glaring, even from two sides expected to be at the bottom end of the table.Let's not kid ourselves about the sin binning though. The team was out on it's feet before then.

I think the problem is Yoda that since winning the Northern Rail Cup we haven't really been playing proper rugby.  We made grand statements about aiming to win the Grand Final, but concentrated our energies and resources elsewhere developing our front of office resources and our player development. Most of us could see the logic of that in terms of overcoming any obstacles in relation to our licence application, but we were also saddened that first team recruitment suffered as we recruited players more to see if they would be up to developing into Superleague players of the future.

After that we never really had the fire power to challenge for the Grand Final, lets face it we failed to recruit a decent scrum half after Webb departed and how long ago was that. OK it was all part of a plan, but it was a very downbeat exit from the Championship.

So I can see why anyone would say that its great to be playing proper rugby again, not being disrespectful to the days in the Championship when we were competing, but moving away from the more recent days when we were treading water and experimenting with players to test out their ability for the future.

There is also an element of wanting to play at the top level of the sport you are in, no matter how competitive we might have been in the Championship.

I agree it was but still wasn't happy about some of the PTB's as seemed to be allowed to slow them down on occasions with little or no penalty, both sides by the way. Ref seemed more interested on leg pulls and hand on ball at the ptb's and not general slow moving off or away from the tackled player and a few times I noticed Wakey moved of the mark forward taking out any chance of us getting markers in there without penalty.

I apologise if it comes over as disrespectful to players it is not meant to be. See Wirral Viking's comments with which I fully concur, so he obviously gets what I mean.  At the time in the Championship I found it hard to support but I did as I always have through thick and thin because it is my club and the likes of Doran , Thackray and Smith to mention but three were when playing for us as good if not better than some of our current signed up squad. What I meant was the intensity was not there and the players who played undoubtedly tried their best but come on we all know after winning the Northern Rail Cup and had ticked the box better quality players were released and not replaced with players of equal ability. It was not their fault nor the club's staff/ owners who had to put the empthasis on the youngsters as that was an area the RL said we had to improve upon and also save money in case we got into Super League rather than waste it on winning relatively meaningless grand finals as the prize was always going to be super league. So I hope that clears a few things up. See you all at Shuddersfield.
