Good news for him as a good level for him especially as been out injured for so long.A great talent and hopefully keeps injury free now.

Hope it works out for him! but he has only played about two or three games in the last two years due to injury so how can he be assessed?

He was brilliant in the few games that I saw, particularly at Ne Brighton on our visit there.
Workington will find out if he has the aggression to get to the top!
I guess that he will be conditioned here first, but he will still train with us, which is one of the benefits of D/R.

Certainly Marsh, Mellor & co trained with Wigan and then match prep with us.
That gives the parent club the ability to keep them in the main frame and they can judge whether or not the lad is learning the right things etc.
The thing about 'loans' I suspect is that players can feel a bit discarded because they go to the other club full time, as I understand it.
They play the game hard in Cumbria, which is what we need to prep our lads for the SL.

I think sometimes it depends on the individual too. I seem to recall Dave Houghton saying something about Ben Davies along the lines of 'At least he turns up to all our sessions.' Which to me suggested they trained at their 'parent club' and then it was basically up to them how much work they did with the DR club.

On website it says could be sending up to 5 to Workington on dual/loan, great experience for younger players.
Think Lawton played for most of last year over at New Brighton for U20s and having run out with Reserves before injury.
Good luck to him.

This is great for the Widnes youngsters, but how is the feeling up in Cumbria now that their locals are'nt getting as many chances?
If you think back a season or 2, our fans were not to happy because the Wigan DR were holding our kids back.
Just saying like

Good point PC,also one of the incentives for lower side is the opportunity for their players to use the SL clubs fascilities, bit of a trek for the workington lads though

Depends just how it is managed. We have expertise here that could really benefit young Cumbrians and add to their playing strength. We certainly would have struggled to win the NRC without a few D/R players. A win like that would be a real boost for Worky if it could be achieved. And as a side benefit out youngsters could get a taste of a hard competition. Throwing a spanner into Fev/Leigh/Fax's drive for the top appeals somehow!

If we have five youngsters who can bridge the gap between Workington and the likes of Fev, then the future is looking rosy indeed.
